Mr Armadilo.

Sorry to say you may have trouble finding a EQ20 these days. They were discontinued a few years back. However I tried it next to the 10 band MXR KK and didn't notice any real difference aside from the memory option.

Other than that all I can suggest is that Mike's ears are rarely wrong. Never to my knowledge. If he says BBE, give it a go. It may just do the trick.

I formerly owned a DOD FX40B 7-band EQ pedal that was great.

I used it to tweeze out the offensive frequencies that cause feedback for my harmonica microphone (I run the mic through my effects) and used the volume slider to hit the front of the preamp on my Vibroverb and dirty things up a bit.

Unfortunately, the pedal bit the dust and I'm not willing to pay $50+ dollars to fix it.

I am interested in the MXR 10-band; it has pre- and post-EQ gain sliders (so I should be able to get that nasty hard-slamming harp tone everybody wants):

I don't like the Boss EQ; it instantly adds a processed sound to your mix, and isn't very transparent (I know that sounds like a oxymoron, but an equalizer should change frequencies, not add sounds that are more mechanical/electronic).

What EQ pedals have you used, and what do you recommend?

Screaming,

I prefer my Boss GE-7. I have owned it for over 15 years and it has never let me down. I haven't noticed a "processed'" or "mechanical" tone from it. Granted I do not use it all the time, just with heavy distortion. Otherwise I keep it off.

Keep going out and play different brands and models. I am also a fan of the MXR 10 band as well. If my Boss ever goes out I would probably purchace it in leu if a Boss if they are putting out a sound I do not care for. Like I said my Boss is 15 years old, it may be built a little differently than they are now.
