I would venture to say that in the large overall view of things:

Bass Players like, and most likely play six string guitars like Strats and Teles and whatnot, and probubly own one or two or more.

Guitarists do not care for bass guitars other than to tell you yours is cool when they don't really give a darn about your dumb bass. They don't own one at all.

Bass players know a killer sounding bass or six string when they hear it.

Guitarists only know bass sound is lower than a guitar.

Guitarists can't even pick up my late 70's P bass . Right now they are wondering" why?"

Bassists make good soundmen and engineers.

Guitarists are good stomp box buyers.

Bassists are layed back and mellow and relaxed and groove, but can rock out when needed.

Guitarists are twitchy little bastards.

A bass player turns his amp on and plays right when the first song starts.

A guitar player sets up his stuff at the gig, turns it on, cranks it up and plays a bunch of annoying too loud runs and licks for 1/2 an hour before the first song of the night. ( dude that drives everyone out of their freakin' skulls in case you didn't know.)

Bass players don't drive over to another bass players house for anything but a cook out.

There are almost never ever two bass players in one band.

There are tons of bands with two guitar players because it takes both of them to get one job done.

Bass players enjoy steak, potatoes, bacon, ice cream, greasy fried chicken, beer, onion rings, salt, bean dip, tons of pepperoni, meatballs as big as my head, a whole box of snickers bars, burritos, crisco fried eggs, etc.

Guitar players get all the chicks.

Am I out of line with this stuff? ..............No.

"not true, we have to own one to show bass players their part in the studio".

nope not all the chics, fat chic need love too so we keep a bass player on speed dial".

I don,t play bass but when I hear a good bass player I really enjoy it. When playing live I feed off of the bass player. For me a good bass player is key to your sound.

thank you bro. just took a moment to be a smartazz back. i enjoyed the read.
this will be a boost for a friends son who has taken up bass. hes worried about
his image lol. i tried to tell him that i too started on bass back in the 70's.
back then, there were 100 bass players and only 2 guitar players in my area, so i switched. not there are 1k guitar players and only 2 bass players in our area. i told him to stick with it.

I started on drums. I could play guitar also. I got in a band with a couple other 14 year olds and the one guys' Mom bought him a brand new 68 P bass! He didn't know how to play it. I taught him how to play bass. I had no clue I could play bass. I didn't even think about it at the time. I didn't realize I was a bass player untill a few years later.

I play some bass as there is a multitude of guitar players and, seemingly, no bass players in Northern Scotland!!!
I say I play bass........I play bass like a guitarist with four strings.......and have been slated for it in the past by bass players so I won't insult the bass players by saying I am a bassist.

I'm with tbazzone here, a good bass player shows us 'twiddlers' up when it comes to sound!

AS a drummer too, though, and with an ability to keep good time there is nohing worse than playing with a bassist who doesn't listen to the timing. When I'm playing rhythm guitar in one of my bands I end up stomping like a dervish trying to keep the bassist in time with the drums cos he is so busy doing his 'thang' that he doesn't listen to any one else...... :x

when i was younger there was a band in the area, these guys never filled the same roll back to back at gigs. they kept switching up. one gig the drummer might be the drummer, the next gig hes on guitar. the bass player plays bass one gig but vocals the next gig.
it was funny. they did it for kicks and kept everybody guessing.
they worked at a total of 3 music stores between them. there where 5 guys if i remember correctly. ya never knew who was gonna be doing what. they were pretty much a bunch of clowns, but great musicians. if you wanted to set in all ya had to do was ask. everybody was welcome too. they put the fun in going to see a band play. nobody was real serious
but they were a good time.

Those are hilarious.

I started on drums for 16 plus years and than went to bass, so I think that makes it easy to play a groove along with the drums and keep a good beat.

We're a 3 pc group and the guitarist and I both play guitar and bass, so we change up at practice often just for fun. Makes us work together better live.

Thanx though, very funny.

Two guys sat down on an airplane and the first guy leans over to the other and says, hey I know a great joke about bass players. Second guy says, hey, I'm a bass player! First guy says okay - I'll tell it r-e-a-l s-l-o-w...

I am first and foremost a guitar player, but I own two bass guitars ('68 Tele bass and a solid ash Peavey T-40 - really think your P-bass is heavy..?) and several bass amps. I've played rhythm, lead and bass guitar for decades, particularly in duos where my partner and I would switch back and forth from guitar to bass. I love a good bass.

Equal time - If you drop a guitar player and a watermelon off a 20-story building at the exact same time, which will hit the ground first? Who cares..?

the other guys in the band use our bass player as a punching bag. (in a loving way, kinda). i don't. sometimes he plays the hell out of a song even though it's not the one the rest of us are playing. but, he plays the hell out of it anyway. i just smile and ask him if his monitor is plugged in.
