Now there's a sight I witnessed first hand that morning. A bit true north of the south tower, we couldn't see the jet coming in, but did see the northeast corner of the building explode. One of my colleagues, on her way in that morning, did see the jet go into the north tower. In the matter of construction, the buildings were designed to withstand not only high winds shears but impact. This city has already seen a medium bomber crash into the Empire State Building some 60+ years ago. What caused the towers to fall was the ferocious heat from the burning jet fuel which compromised the structural integrity of the design which had heretofore supported the building successfully for over 30 years.

Tornado, without wishing to drudge up old conspiracy theories, I'll answer your question. The answer is quite plausable from a construction point of view.

The main problem with the towers was the drywall to the structural steel (beams and columns). It was a old system where the steel would be clad with fire rated plasterboard. So when the plane hit, it popped the boards off the steel, allowing fire and heat to travel along and through the steel. The steel at the bottom being under the most pressure, it heated up quicker.
If the steel had been sprayed, rather than clad. I doubt they would have come down the way they did.

Thats my rudimentary understanding of it, though for years I was ready to embrace a lot of the conspiracy stories. I can't deny that construction flaw and have to believe it to be the reason for the unusual way the towers collapsed. I'm currently watching BBC news at six. Despite my dissapointment at the BBC, this news show can be relied upon to give a clear concise report. They've gone right back to 1993 WTC attack by OBL, recounting his trail of horror. It's worth watching just to see the animalistic attitude of the thing and his hatred for the US. He was like the worst kind of serial killer apparently. A real Jeff Dahmler. Soft spoken, kind, generous on one side. A monster on the other.

Apparently Karzai (what the brits call a toilet sometimes) reckons the end of terrorism is possibly in site now that is a bit unlikely doh.

Unfortunately this will not end the war on terrorism. There s always someone else ready to take charge. If anything this is bound to make him a martyr for his cause. I still see some dark days in the future. It would have been better to take him alive and tried for his crimes against humanity.

I can't for the life of me understand why they disposed of his body so soon.They said that it was because he was Muslim and in keeping with Islamic beliefs he had to be buried within 24 hours of death.This is where it becomes sticky and confusing.Even though he claimed to be Muslim his so-called jihad went against just about everything Islam and written in the Quran.He and his actions have been denounced by leading Muslim clerics over the years and time and time again they have stated emphatically that he is not following any rules in the Islamic faith or Islamic law.
So my question is.Why should've they given the respect of an Islamic funeral to someone who clearly didn't follow the message of the Quran and the peaceful credo of the true Islamic faith? He in fact made a mockery of Islam and in doing so created a huge anti Muslim sentiment worldwide.They should've kept his body at least to prove conclusively that he was indeed dead and then dumped his remains in an unmarked grave so that it wouldn't become a shrine for his terrorist followers.

I think given the sensitivity of the situation and the backlash over parading Saddam's corpse on tv. That the decision to quickly dispose of the body, in a way suited to a muslim to the best of the military's capabilities, was intentional. If they'd paraded the corpse all the loony followers of the loony martyr would have gone ballistic.

After all, it wouldn't be much good to achieve this only to inspire some other madman to do something as bad next week. May as well take the diplomatic way out and try to keep the peace.
Looking at the 6pm news, Obama, Blair and Cameron are all expecting reprisals when you listen to the tone of their voices. All showing off the corpse would do is outrage impressionable people to being more inclined towards extremists.

He was buried at sea ( talk about polluting the water ) because no country would take his body for burial . They also didn`t want his burial sight to become a place of worship. He was buried according to Islamic Law, within 24 hours of death. Why they gave him this courtesy is beyond comprehension.
