War is what it is. Having rules for that 'game' is sheer idiocy. You play to win and do what has to be done to do so. The nature of the morality of it is relevant to that of the cultures of the adversaries. We generally play publicly to a moral high ground. Students of the history of warfare know that there came a time when we came down from the high ground and played to win. The firebombings of Dresden, Tokyo, and the nukes over Hiroshima and Nagasaki are examples. When Bin Laden and company set their sights on the WTS, both times, as well as the other attacks which have been perpetrated over the past decade, when hostages are publicly beheaded, the moral threshold has been set by them. Therefore, you come down of the hill, into the dung heap, and play by THEIR rules. The rules they set, and obviously understand well. To play by any other suggests weakness to them. Hence, the response to any objection from that side of the aisle IMHO is plain and simple, and right out of the streets....

What did they lie about?

The ex military guys here say the "fog of war" thing is very real. They said when your in the situation you only get peices of information and the time needs to be taken to fully analyze the events and debrief the people involved. The only mistake the government made was to release the information too soon rather than wait for the whole story.
