each track.

They have another free preview going through the Christmas Season and a chance to
subscribe for 12 months for $60.

Thanks for the heads up. I have 6 months free because I just got a new car and I'm on the fence about subscribing. There's a good Jazz station as well as several classical stations, etc. here in Los Angeles and a good Jazz station over in the Ventura/Oxnard area, hence no great need for Sirius.

I used to travel long distances in the CD days but I've long since had an iPod with someone like 7 days of music on it. That's enough (and yep, I've done it) to drive all the way to the east coast and back and not repeat a tune. That too makes Sirius someone unnecessary in my mind.

Still, if I could tack a year onto my 6 months for $60, I'd probably do it. I find myself listening to the Grateful Dead and Beatles channels (yes, I'm a dinosaur) along with the Jazz and blues channels. You can never have too much music as I see it.

We have a subscription to it in the car. I remember years ago, they offered it for DirecTV in their music channels, so we had it for that, at the time, as well.

I just renewed for 5 more months for $30. and they added in-home streaming (Alexa) at N/C.

Their stock is tanking so good deals out there.

I called to cancel today and they again offered to 5 month package (no streaming this time)
for $30 + 5.99 for musician royalty fees. I hope that they are paying them!

This time it's called Sirius XM Lite but still has Little Steven's Underground Garage, The Beatles Channel,
Classic Vinyl, Classic Rewind, The Spectrum, Willie's Roadhouse, Outlaw Country, B.B. King's Bluesville
and a few others that I'll check out.

That’s a pretty good deal, Mike. Beats the $240 yearly deal I once loaded up on. I like the service especially for traveling, and it got me through a snowstorm in the Rockies where radio was sporadic at best.

As for artists, with artists involved in ownership or support, and with companies like CBC as a shareholder that supports the arts in a big way, my guess is Sirius/XM does as well or better in distributing royalties than others.

They try to charge me around $250/yr every renewal period and I call then up tell them they need to do better for someone who has subscribed for over 10 years and I get a year for around $145 + taxes.

In fact last year I had originally agreed to a higher rate, called them back the next day and told them it wasn't sitting well with me and I wanted the rate I paid in 2018. They did it, I barely had to fight.

You have to ask, and ya just never know. I don’t know what the options are with Sirius/XM elsewhere, but there was a lifetime tier available for some time. Here one offering was a one time payment of $500. Other arrangements were spoken of, but it came and went, and returned for a limited membership, and that was chosen by the member being approached within a momentary time frame by Sirius/XM and the same offer was not available by approaching them. The time frame opened and closed and opened and closed again over years.

Fortunately, I got a call, was allowed a day’s grace to consider it, was due for an annual $240 renewal anyhow, figured another possible $240 a year more or less 12 months later, and on. and on or not. I was about to stop the annual service, however, the lifetime plan travels and continues with me or my wife (it’s in her name) and transfers to any car. Deal done, and I haven’t looked back.

$500 is no small chunk of change and it was a big decision at the time; but 5 or 6 nights out on the town, or one or two evenings entertaining guests, can run you that much easily today. YMMV

My guess is Lite as Mike mentioned will become a popular option. Of course, Internet radio, Bluetooth, and MP3, etc. all have their benefits. I still use the odd CD too. But, satellite radio? I especially like listening to home tv, jumping in the car or vice versa, and continuing with the broadcast if available. Gotta love it or not. :P
