My favorite lens is my 11-18 aspherical W/A by Tamron. I use the wide angle 100x more than all my telephotos put together.

I took film (mostly Kodachrome) from 1967 until my first digital camera in 1999, a SONY DSC-F505. I've since tried a dozen digitals in earnest, high and low, small, large, point-and-shoot and prosumer.

I keep coming back to my SONY DSC-717, which is the best darned prosumer digital EVER made, as far as I can see. I've shot over 6000 photos with my current one and own three in case I wear one out. I don't know how I'd replace it. It's "only" 5MP, but has the best lens/CCD combination I've yet to see. I've done posters, and do two calendars a year, too, besides my blogs and Photobucket albums.

I've got a Nikon D5000, too. Bought new and loaded with accessories, most of which are still in their boxes. It can't come close to the SONY in any category, besides being a bear to set up.

These were all SNAPSHOTS taken with the DSC-F717 SONY, using available light.

...and I LOVE my Sony Alpha 350! There's not one thing I've wanted to do with it that I haven't been able to do. I'm not sure of the specs, but...

Plus you have either a Jaz or a Jag and I've been lusting for one, but promised my wife I won't buy another 'tar for 2 years without getting rid of one first. And I'm not ready to give up either the strat or the steinberger. Maybe the Ministar? Nah...It's too much of a fun novelty.

I have a bunch. Nikon D700 and my D200. Both great cameras and both great workhorses. I might get a 7000. The low light capabilities of the 7000 are mind boggling. I still shoot film and still run a full darkroom. I still use my Calumet 4x5 and Mamiya 645 Pro and RB67 Pro S. I also use a plastic $16 Holga as well as some antique stuff.
You really can't go wrong with the new crop of digital cameras. I don't get too caught up in all the megapixel stuff. I've shot for national publications using an 5 mp Olympus E20 LOL. It was the HRDlx of all my photo gear. I just about shoot everything in manual and use the custom menus to tweak it the way I want it. I run everything through Photoshop CS5. As long as your exposures are good, you're all set.

Arjay always does nice photography work.
