Man time flies. I cannot believe it has been 20 years this May since I returned from the War in Iraq. My wife and I both went to Desert Shield/Desert Storm and it seems like just yesterday that we returned to our regular duty assignment in Germany. I was getting some stuff from the safe and I saw the newspaper shown below and it really brought back memories. This is an experience that we will share with our son some day because he is on his 2nd tour in Iraq right now.

I would also like to extend my thanks to everyone else reading this who has served his/her country.

BUT, like I said, Man time flies!

My thanks to you and your wife for serving. I just retired last October after 28 years in the Air Force and yep time does fly...seems like just a couple years back I was a fresh faced young Airman doing my first tour in Germany.

I too am an Iraq veteren, spent 8 long months flying all over Iraq checking on training of Iraqi army units (yea an AF guy checking on training of Iraqis...it was a weird tour) and with the exception of the whole getting shot at several times while riding in helicopters it was some of the greatest experiences I ever had in my career.

Liked the pic of the F-15 always liked the eagle...they were great aircraft...even road in one once...Now that was a ride!

Oh and welcome to the Forum...some great folks here and they know everything Fender!

It was 40 years ago this March that I returned from active duty in the Republic of Vietnam. For a while there I always remembered my March anniversaries, but now they just sort of slip by. I was honorably discharged three days after I returned to the States and it probably only took me another 20 years to get my head straight. I think it's straight.

Thanks for serving and to all of those on this board who have served through the years.

CRGuitarMan:

I am glad to hear that you are doing well and I want to thank you for what you did for your country. Your sacrifice is greatly appreciated.

You also just reminded me that it has been about 40 years since my brother returned from Vietnam. Unfortunately, he has had a rough go of it from day one.

I admit that for the first few years, I had a lot of rough nights. As you can attest to, this is not uncommon. I know my father once told me that he still saw the faces of those killed when he was in WWII even after all the intervening decades.

T2Stratman:

Thank you for your service to your country too. I remember before the ground war seeing all of the aircraft returning from their bombing runs. I always reminded my troops that without their efforts, we would have lost a LOT of ground troops. I know that I am alive today due to two Apaches saving my butt!

I had a couple of buddies from Kirtland who were deployed to KKMC and they said the OPTEMPO was so intense and the sortie rate so high that they only got around three hours of sleep per day for the first three weeks after the air campaign commenced. Both of them were "load toads" on the F-117.
