has anyone here built up one of the Res-O-Glas Guitar Bodies kits? i am thinking that i want to grab one or two of them. maybe build one and keep one in kit form for inheritance. Has anyone tried to build one up? they look pretty cool when done right, replace the cheap wood with thick grain and slam them with some massive pickups. thoughts?

No, but I do have an original 63 Supro Martinique. This one is mine and yep, I took the photo. Its what I do for a living. All I can say is it's a really cool guitar. Plays even better than it looks. The neck on mine is a three blot deal and the tilt can be adjusted. It also has a "Zero" fret and the intonation if perfect. It plays like an LP Fretless Wonder. Mine has some sort of a contact pickup built into the bridge that can be blended with the neck pickup. Those kits look pretty close. That Belmont looks pretty sweet. IMO, They are very unique sounding. Mine still plays fine and I've owned it since 1964.

Price is pretty good considering a Jetson is about 2k and a Belmont probably 1500.

Look at it this way. My Supro went for $250.00 in 1963. The bodies are pretty much indestructible and a little car wax is all that's needed to keep them looking great. You can't ding them and the color is molded into them.

I just might have to bookmark that site. We need someone to try them first though :)

I have to admit they are interesting and would make a nice addition to the collection, but it's also a fair amount of cash out-of-pocket and who knows how much time? But I will bookmark the site, just in case someday I have a lot of spare time... and the cash, too.

We need reviews though before investing.

Thanks, No problem.
Their website has some videos and comments about the quality of the bodies. I'm getting a little interested myself. Bruce Zinky even comments on them.
I do disagree on a couple of comments the company made about the originals. I've never had any problems with the strap buttons and I only have a couple of very minor stress fractures around the screw holes where the screws go through the body. I really abused this guitar as a kid and never had any problems. I don't know about any foam, as I've never had the need to take it apart. Not bad for a guitar that's 48 years old. The only problem I have with it is the neck binding is shrinking and starting to crack. I'll probably look into having it repaired since I still play it. I've have owned the Supro since 1964 or 65. Can't remember exactly I'm a geezer. I know I was around 10 or 11 when my father bought it for me.

i am definitely picking up a couple of them. Right now i am trying to figure out how many pickups can physically be placed on these bodies. I am guessing A LOT  . build one retro classic and one screaming hot rod. ah the possibilities are endless.

Space will probably limit you to three humbucker style pups.

Check this out.
