yup, this is turning into a ford vs. chevy thread.

Let's try this,
Fender: the apple pie or pumpkin pie of guitars?

It's really the Harley of guitars: company bought back by employees, resurrected and made successful after a rough patch, and both built on the cornerstone of American culture. Both relying heavily on lifestyle and vintage values.

i think fender is like a prius hybrid, except in a more manly way  you get good mileage and quality for the money and everyone looks at you (well for different reasons) when you have one

sorry if i offended any prius owners

WOW, very impressive turnout. I hope this really doesn't turn into a Ford vs Chevy thread, but so far it hasn't come to that. I also think Fender is the Ford of guitars because fender produced the first MASS produced guitar, and if you look at old Ford cars vs. Chevy cars Ford really paid more attention to the looks of their vehicles. Oh yeah hurricane thanks for pointing out a couple car companies I couldn't quite think of, I was trying to think of Caddy.

So guys thx for posting. This has proved mighty interesting. :D

-btw, let's not forget Dodge, they make some purty good stuff too, Ford and Chevy are still the only options though.

The Focus is one of the best handling, best riding cars America makes. Ford spent billions developing not just the suspension, but the ergonomics so big people, and older folks would be comfortable and had ease of operation.

Fender makes products with that thinking. They may not spend billions, but when you settle down behind a Strat, you can feel the years of development and thought that went into the product.

you'll have to pick but gibson has great guitar designs but horrible basses. but fender makes good overall perfomance guitars and better basses. dont really know what that would be in car terms.....

Ford, though I'm biased. Got a '67 Fairlane with over 400k miles, and access to two '65 Mustangs. You guys do realize that Fender has Mustangs and Mustangs have fenders!

Right now I drive an '01 Cherokee with a Fender front plate. My FenderJeep!

I kinda think of Fenders of being like an old Jeep, especially Teles. You can do nearly anything to and with them, and they still keep going.

As far as Jeeps go, how many vehicle brands do you know of where people take them out on weekends and TRY (and not necessarily succeed) to break them? Or have a arc welder installed under the hood for repair purposes? Of course, that's an aftermarket option...

If I had to choose between Ford and Chevy, I would have to go with Ford. Ford is the company that owns and/or has controlling interests in the following companies: Lincoln, Mercury, Jaguar, Land Rover, Volvo, Mazda. That's a lot of high end product without forgetting about the working man's needs with the more affordable brands. Fender has guitars, bassess, amps, etc. Fender also has Gretsch, Jackson, Guild, Squier (which all really reflect the Ford Motor Company).

I've owned 2 classic Mustangs in my life ('69 Fastback and '67 Notchback) and was very pleased with both of them for their quality and simplistic yet powerful design. When I sold them, I was young and stupid.

Chevrolet does not own anybody and is only a component of GM. They do have the Corvette, but that's it. Gibson isn't quite there with the basses and amps.
