This is one of the best books by a guitar player I have ever read. Highly recommend it to all.

Can you give us a mini book review and story line please-that is without giving away the whole plot.

Hey this is Steve Lyon and I'm the Editor in Chief at Moody Publishing. I worked closely with Doyle on The Lights of Marfa and really appreciate the kind words. You guys are right ... great book by one of the finest guys you could ever meet.

Story line (without giving too much away) is a bit about his family background, how he came to play the guitar ... and the guy who showed him 'Spider pickin'' (i.e., Travis picking) so he could play all those Chet and Merle tunes he couldnt' figure out with a flat pick. (The story of their reunion years later is one you'll never forget). Great stories as well about how he came close to joining The Stamps (Elvis' backup band), what inspired him to write 'White Rose for Heidi' (his oldest daughter), how he came to have a brick in his honor placed at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, England along with some of the greats of the music industry, and how his faith has played out in some incredible experiences on the road. Dynamite stuff - not too mention the cool pictures of his guitars and guitar greats he's played with.

If you have a chance to read it, would you mind helping us get the word out not only here, but also by posting a comment on Amazon? Thanks! Enjoy the read!

Steve, welcome to the Forum! Very cool that you found this thread. I have been thinking of our most loved and respected member Gratz. I haven't seen a post from him lately and because I've always enjoyed them have wondered why he last was here in late October. He is a busy Bro so that is probably why, we'll wait for him, as he is worth the wait. If you know him please give him our best.
I have been by Moody's big building on Lasalle many times and have heard good things about the services there always. Publishing literature and music must be interesting and time consuming, do you play guitar too? If you do you've come to the best guitar Forum on the internet IMHO. Hope that you stay awhile.
I wouldn't normally listen to this style of guitar music but when I did, because of this thread, I was won over by this guitar picker. Here is a video of Doyle:

Solid, you nailed it bro! BlackStratGratz is sorly missed round these forums, it's great to see him here again. And Gratz, I'll be visiting amazon in a few mins bro, to get a hold of this book. Your last reccomendation bookwise was awesome, I hope you and J are good. And to Steve, I'll be sure to comment of amazon (UK), after I read the book.

Interesting, over the holidays my wife and I attended an open house hosted by one of the guys who play at our cafe on friday nights. We were introduced to the Marfa pastor who is now retired and living in Tucson and is a member of our friends church.
