Gang: if you'll pardon the informal quick survey, I had a quick question to pose to the gamers in the group. Specifically, I'm looking for some honest feedback on our Rock Band™ 3 Controller and the Rock Band family of games themselves. Is this controller something you're interested in? Do you see yourself purchasing one and/or is it on your "wish list"? Have you played Rock Band before? Impressions? etc., etc.

I think rock band is fun...for a while, and then the novilty wears off. I am interested in the midi control part of the controller to use for recording purposes, if that is possible.

Seen it in use, but I have no interest in it whatsoever. My grandkids maybe, but not me.

Think it appeals more to the younger crowd. I am somewhat of a gamer and the Rock Band guitar simply doesn't hold up in terms of comfort compared to a simple handheld controller. I mean why can't I simply get good at pushing 5 buttons without having to pretend that it's a guitar?

Until I can plug my genuine strat - with a 1/4" input into my Xbox, it will never appeal to me.

I'm not a gamer by any means. I will play the Wii with the Armadillo Child (and enjoy it) but that's the extent of my gaming. She wins at tennis, I win at bowling, etc.

I have tried Guitar Hero and Rock Band, and I didn't really enjoy myself much at all. I think part of my problem was me trying to actually play the songs/chords and forgetting I had to touch the green button or whatever. Armadillo Child (nine years old) thought "the idea is cool, but the game is lame..."

Out of the mouth of babes...

I hate Rock Band because every body goes around thinking they can play guitar when all there doing is pressing buttons.also with the controller,It's a waist of money because kids will never use it as a normal guitar because they have to buy an amp and unless a kid realy cares about music they won't bother with it. It will be just another controller. And for an adult,If you want a guitar that bad buy a nice one.Use a ROCK BAND controller for ROCK BAND.

Up until a year and a half ago, I bought and played every rock band/guitar hero game that was on the market. The games were a great time with my son. However, the controllers did not last at all. At last count we had 8 or 9 guitar controllers. But... the game got very old and I decided that I had wasted a lot of time getting to the point that I could play all game songs on "expert" but couldn't play a chord on a real guitar. So a I bought my 1st real guitar and haven't looked back since.

If this controller had been available at that time, I would not have bought it for the first few games but I probably would have picked it up after the 2nd plastic one failed. Maybe it would have helped me make the switch to real guitar but I still think I would have bought something else in a short period of time.

I think the controller is a good idea, but I think it hit the market too late. It seems to me that gamers have moved on to other games. And I think that the non-gamer friends that come over to play once in awhile will find the controller too difficult and will either use the plastic guitar or not play.

Highly dislike. It takes no particular talent, contains no artistic expression. It's repetition in it's ugliest simplified form. Yuck-o.

I like the games in and of themselves, I doubt I would buy the new controller though, there is real gear to be bought.
Riddle me this, could I use a casio midi guitar in place of this fancy controller?

Same here. I think playing Rock Band is fun, but I'm way too busy to have time for it right now. And if I have an hour free to choose between it or real guitar, I'd go with real guitar. I can't justify the money on it when what I really need are more practical things, like better cables for my rig. As far as learning songs with the Squier guitar controller go, I think I would've thought that was great when I was around 13 and teaching myself but now it doesn't really have that appeal for me. This is the first time I've heard about the MIDI controller function though, and that's something I'd be extremely interested in for use recording.

Rock Band for me was a stepping stone to start playing real guitar. I loved it and went out and bought a Squire Strat and the rest is history.

Now remember, I'm an old geezer. Hence, I certainly have no interest in such things. To me, it is nothing more than 'high tech air guitar'. Notwithstanding, it does have one redeeming social value which is, while the kiddies are physically playing it, that will be one less carnage and wanton destruction type game they are not playing at the moment. YMMV.

I have two sons who have played and enjoyed Rock Band. The older is a couple of years out of high school now, so it was probably 4 to 5 years ago that he and his buddies played, and they played alot. Some, my son included, were also playing real guitar, but I don't think there was any connection in their mind between the two. With my younger who is still in high school, he and his buddies used to play but don't seem at all interested anymore. If my small sample size is any indication, it seems that the Rock Band thang has passed.

Brad, I've played and it was fun but not so fun that I would play again  Like most of the responses so far I would rather play a real guitar :D
