I'm "The Sound Guy" at my church. We're currently looking for a new acoustic backline amp and I've been eye-ing the Acoustasonic 30 and Acoustasonic Jr. I'm trying to determine what the "stereo" portion of the description is for the Acoustasonic Jr. Literature says it has two independent channels. I've also looked at the schematics and gone to a retailer to try to see how this works, but everything is inconclusive, so maybe somebody can answer this for me: Does each of the two channels only drive one power amp/speaker? Here's my point: For acoustic back-lining, I prefer a single speaker with a mic. I try to avoid multiple speakers to avoid creating too wide of a dispersion pattern (small stage). If this is truly stereo, I would expect channel 1 to drive one speaker and channel 2 to drive the other. If that is the case, the amp is ideal for me because a) in backline applications only one speaker is active and b) for "solo" applications in other areas I can have an instrument and mic (2 speakers active). I'm getting mixed signals from "experts" telling me how the amps are configured. Anyone know for sure how this works?

I own an Acoustasonic Jr and I love it, use it all the time for solo gigs. Yes, there are two separate power amps in the amp and each runs one set of controls on two separate channels, usually guitar on one side, vocals on the other, but... you only have one XLR out on the back *, so your send to the PA is just a mix of the two channels. It's a very versatile amp with nice DSP effects on both channels, everything's independent on the front, mixed out the back. I don't believe there's any true stereo involved.

* Dual 40W amplifiers
* Dual 8" foam-surrounded LF drivers
* HF tweeter
* Ideal for acoustic-electric instruments and vocals
* Mic and instrument channels have independent EQs
* Phase switch controls feedback
* String Dynamics control reins in harsh treble
* Phantom power on mic channel
* Line out lets you go direct to a mixer *
* DSP effects
* Optional footswitch controls effects switching on both channels
* Tilt-back legs for better projection
* Warm-looking brown/wheat cosmetic treatment

No mention of stereo features.

CRGuitarMan....thanks for the info. I'm technical, not talented, and my background is engineering. I looked at the schematics and came up with the same assessment you gave including the composite mix from the rear panel XLR. I queried my sales pro at Sweetwater and he very clearly stated, with authority, that the sound from both channels came out of both speakers ALWAYS. I said that was not what the term "stereo" implied. I'm not thinking stereo was meant in the binaural sense; only that it indicated two separate distinct channel paths all the way through to the speakers. I wanted to verify this with somebody at Fender, but I can't find the pathway to the right technical department.

Bought an Acoustasonic 30 about 5 years ago and did not keep it for even a whole day.

Traded big-up to Acoustasonic SFX.

Mo' betta, oh, yeah. In this opinion, don't go half-way on something which is going to get a lot of use and stay in one place.

The Acoustasonic Jr and the SFX are both quite a lot more amp than the A 30, but I found the extra weight and handling of the SFX were not worth the extra wattage. The Jr can do about everything the SFX can do and especially if you're looking to use the XLR out, there's not much point in spending the extra dough - you'll get great sound from the Acoustasonic Junior, without the weight and expense, plus you get those great tilt-back legs!
