i hold my pick with my thumb and middle finger. Does it matter? i have played like that for years and didn't think it mattered but i noticed that most hold a pick with the thumb and index finger.

I suppose the only time it would possibly matter is if you want to use your fingers to pick at the same time as using the pick...........

It's one of those things that's to do with comfort and if you like it.....why change?

You could have a difficult time doing chickin' pickin' with your style  . If it does not limit you who cares.

When Edward Van Halen plays single string stacatto notes he holds his pick like that. Watch the clip starting at around 1:06 and you can see.

Back when I used a pick (which I rarely do now), I always held it between my thumb and middle finger as well. I never really paid attention as to whether this was right or wrong.

Nowadays I generally don't use a pick, just flesh and fingernails...on the rare occasions when I use one, I still hold it between my thumb and middle finger.

If you had no index finger, you would have to hold your pick that way. Would it still be wrong? :?
