Hi all, just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with the Danelectro Reel Echo Unit or the Line6 Delay Modeler? I need a delay unit as my old memory man has finally bitten the dust and these two are for sale on my local trading site. Sooo...any advice would be gratefully accepted..thanx

Electro Harmonix is still making the Memory Man and a host of other echo,reverb/delay units for competitive prices.I had an old first run Memory Man Deluxe back around 1980 or whenever it was when they first came out but it gave out after just a few months as they weren't near as reliable back then. These days the new ones are just about bullet proof. If you look on ebay you may find an 80s era Ibanez DM 1000 or 2000 digital delay for around $100-$150 and they are great rigs for delay, phase, flange, slap back echo and just about any tape or modulation effect.I have used mine since I lost the old Memory Man and it hasn't given me 1 minute's trouble.

thanks all for the input. I think I'll try and find one of those mxr units to check out. Mostly going to be used for that slapback rockabilly sound.

Then you would really like the Rocket 88..its all analog and built to sound like an echoplex..Ive never heard the mxr units so i couldnt comment..i used an echoplex for years..and still do on occasion...but the Rocket 88 fits in a gigbag..goodluck with your quest...

You might want to check out this:

There are some reviews on YouTube as well.

I'll reiterate my original suggestion: MXR M169 Carbon Copy Delay.

For Slapback settings, note the suggestion on the far left of the manual:

http://www.jimdunlop.com/files/manuals/M169CarbonCopyManual.pdf

Also, if you want to do more than just rockabilly, there's some Bramhall II- and Gilmour-esque sounds in that little green box as well.
