Alright...here's a little entertainment for your Tuesday.

I believe that Rap got it's start long before Snoop Dog. It was called Talking Blues, and I'm not sure but this might have been the first one. Some pretty good pickin on this anyways...Enjoy

Rap has been around for a long long time, originating in African tribes I believe. That being said, cool vids, and it's spelled Snoop Dogg (D O double G). ^^

Rap always reminded me of the "Beat" poetry that was big in Greenwich Village and other such places back in the late 50s-early 60s.I lone "beatnik" would recite poetry often accompanied by a bongo player keeping time to the meter of the poetry.I wonder if rap may be in some way descended from that too.Either way I can't warm up to it to say the least,I find just about all of it unlistenable.

Oh, ddeaton 107, I know, just don't try to figure out his language, thats a whole different thing. I don't know where Snoop studied, But where I went to school, we didn't spell it that way either.

Indeed as said before rap was recorded centuries ago within african tribes...

However modern rap, well maybe not modern now but 70's/80's rap owed much to the beats and rhythms of funk and soul. The most important moment in rap history was the Amen Break... This drum break has been a massive cornerstone of rap, hiphop, drum & bass and other types of music.

So you can see what it sounds like, and at different speeds....you will recognise it instantly.

From N.W.A. to The Prodigy to Slipknot to Oasis, the Amen Break has been bringing joy to our lives for 44 years now, it's come a long way from the song Amen, Brother by funk soul band The Winstons.

I know this forum is predominantly a guitar players haven, but I thought we could all appreciate a little bit of musical history, I find it interesting.

Oh and finally I will leave you with one of my favourite rap songs, from a time when even if you don't agree with what they're saying, the rappers were putting a lot of thought into the words they are saying and the timing of when they say them. Not like most mass produced churned out rap today. You might not like it but respect the fact that these guys were trying to make something meaningful.

When I think of rap, or is it hip hop :? I think of Crunk, Dirty South, Electro-hop, Club Bangas, Gangsta, Hardcore, Miami Bass, Mid West, Old School, New School, Scratch, Smooth, West Coast, Freestyle, Ambient, Breakbeat, Dubstep, Euro, House, IDM, Industrial, Techno, Trance, Trip-Hop and a few others that escape me at the moment.

I don't think of blues, for some reason. :?:
