Steve from the band Mr. Mister recorded the album Welcome To The Real World with an ODS. 'Kyrie' isn't the mostest awesomest tone I've ever heard. IMHO.YMMV.

oh yeah,I've read that some Dumbles are fantastic and some are not all they are cracked up to be.
Just another mystical tone that nobody can get unless they have one.

...that sounds like every amp manufacturer ever!

There's been some Fenders, Marshalls, Voxeseses (plural Vox? :? ) and even boutique amps that are real dogs out there...

yeah, and you let some big name player have one onstage, and people scramble to buy one to get that tone mojo magic....no matter what brand.
There's been plenty of unhappy musicians over the years because their amp didn't sound great ...(like me,when my Boogie didn't get that Santana tone) back in 1985.

If anyone's interested, I have half a dozen Dumbles at home that I'm happy to sell.

...Or at least, for that price I soon can have. :|

Cheers - C

Has anyone ever met Howard?

I know the gentleman is a recluse and getting up in years now...as I understand it, Mr. Dumble's kinda quirky:
IF
1: he likes your music/playing
2: he knows and likes you
3: he offers and you accept

Then and only then will he gladly build an amp for you...of course, it'll be awhile...

There's no shortage of frustrated collectors and Big name players with plenty of big money to throw his way who can't get him to build an amp...

Dumbles didn't get their reputation from sounding like dung. Last summer I saw Sonny Landreth and he had his Dumble cranking. The tone from the Dumble was stunning. There was a huge difference in tone between his Twin and his Dumble. The Dumble was way more complex and organic. Really hard to describe except the Dumble made the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Do I think they're worth that kind of cash? Nah. Not even if I had the cash. I'd have an amp custom built first.
