My Vox AD120VTH has 2 Dumble settings on it and I think I'll just stick to that for now. For that kind of money I could buy my '54 dream Strat and have enough left over to buy my '64 Reverse Firebird.

Geez, for that kind of money, couldn't they rotate the speakers so the EV is right-side-up on them? It's distracting. I couldn't play through it looking like that.

And think of all the really cool stuff you could buy for $85,000.

You have got to be kidding me...$85K...I wouldn't pay that for a 57 Strat and a Tweed Twin even if Leo came back and handed them to me himself

I played a Dumble once and was no where near impressed especially not $85K impressed :!:

yeah i think its because a couple of well respected guys played them so everybody boosts the price for the tone chasers. i would much rather have a BF-DR myself.

Even if I had the money--and I don't--and even if I had the desire to have a Dumble--kinda, but not that much--I don't know what the purpose of paying that much for any piece of musical equipment would be.

I certainly wouldn't take it out to play a gig; I certainly wouldn't be able to enjoy transporting it, for fear of damaging it (that thing cost more than both of my cars combined).

It might sound good for a recording session, but if the tone is that dynamic and unique, I couldn't replicate my tone live, so that makes it silly to use.

I'll stick to my Vibroverb and the (new) EL84-loaded amp (either Egnator or Vox) I'm saving up for...

Although these amps do sound great, I wonder how much of the mystique involving these devices is from who used/uses them as well as the difficulty in determining which electronic components Howard uses (due to the epoxy encasing the boards)?

SRV, Ry Cooder, Santana, Lowell George, the list goes on...all guys who are known for having great tone.

However, I remember an old guitar magazine touting a small Fender solid state practice amp as a "key" to SRV's tone. The article was kind of half-joking and perhaps making fun of people who were trying to track down every piece of equipment a particular artist ever used in order to sound like them (in this case, it was SRV), but it showed a pic of a little amp most of us would give to a beginner kid. But because it was on stage with Stevie Ray (the supposition was as a makeshift stage monitor or something--it wasn't mic'd, but it was turned on) it had to be the reason he could play so good  .
