Post subject: nitro to poly finishes

A local guy told me that Fender switched to ploy from nitro in the late 1960's. I thought it was later than that. anyone know for sure?

They switched in '67.

I believe that they started using a poly (or something similar) undercoat around 63 with nitro finish, until switching to poly for undercoat AND finish later. :idea:

The much maligned 'Fullerplast' sealer. (name is a coincidence, and has nothing to do with the old fender plant in Fullerton.)

There's evidence they experimented with it for a while before using it consistently after 63.
