It's good Friday for many people the world over and this year it coincides with Earth Day. In a couple of hours I'm off down to the beach for our family day and clean up.We were debating whether or not having it on Good Friday would be looked upon as sacreligious by some but we figured doing something for the earth wouldn't be too unholy an undertaking on this day.Anyway we are having it so that the times wouldn't clash with church services.
We are having our cleanup mostly to show our council that the community cares about the beach and doesn't want a subdivision of mansions going there especially since National Geographic Traveller deemed it the most must-see coastal region in the world. It's crazy how some people throw common sense out the window when you wave money under their noses.

I'm not long back from the beach and we had a much larger turnout than expected. People brought their kids and we made a family day out of it with roasted weenies and marshmallows for the kids-who also did a great job picking up the garbage. We also had 3 huge piles of driftwood that we burned,a bit of driftwood here and there looks nice but after September's hurricane Igor the beach was just covered with so much driftwood that it was unsightly.

Good on you. Doing something worthwhile and selfless, whether ecclesiastical or environmental, is a fine use of one's time.
