wiki: Leon Redbone (born Dickran Gobalian, August 26, 1949) is a singer and guitarist specializing in interpretations of early 20th-century music, including jazz and blues standards and Tin Pan Alley classics.

Recognized for his trademark Panama hat, dark sunglasses, and bow tie, Redbone first appeared on stage in Toronto, Canada in the mid-1970s.

Redbone has released approximately fifteen albums and earned a sizable cult following. His concerts blend performance, comedy, and skilled instrumentals. Recurrent gags involve the influence of alcohol and claiming to have written works originating well before his time. He sang the theme to the television series Mr. Belvedere.[3]

I like the cheesy violin in Ain't Misbehavin'. The song has a nice 1910'-20's era feel.

Oh Yeah!! Saw him in the early 90's in Cleveland, OH. Had a guy with him who was playing a tuba. Fine, fine, fine.

Any band that has a tuba in it makes me immediately stop and take notice, if at least for a few minutes. Maybe because it's such a ridiculously unique instrument.

There used to be a comedy band in Dallas that had a guy who played tuba, and his wife would sing like Dolly Parton; she had the phrasing, vibrato and tone and everything perfect. You haven't lived until you've heard Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" played on tuba while Dolly sings, "You need coolin'..."

The opening band for Tab Benoit the other night had a guy who alternated between trombone, guitar and percussion. You wonder when he has time to sleep.

I, too, saw Leon in the mid-80's at a little place place called the Old Town Bar And Grill (Oat Bag for short) in Eureka, CA. I'm pretty sure it was him and tuba guy. He had a nice little stage set, comfy chair, a little table for his drink and ash tray, and an old hand crank Victrola, one with the big cone. At one point during the show, Leon set his guitar down, brought the house lights down, and asked for a tiny white spot light on the backdrop behind him. He cranked up the Victrola, set the needle onto a scratchy 78 record and out came a woman's voice singing some beautiful Italian opera aria. Leon put his hands into the spot proceeded to do a shadow puppet show to that aria that brought the house down! Laughter, tears, beer out noses, and a standing ovation. Yeah, I dig me some Leon.
