I was poking around here reading and I was impressed with the amount of info being posted so I thought I'd join!

I started playing bass several months ago and have really enjoyed it from day one. 8) I play a 4 string Squire P bass with RotoSounds and standard pickups. I was extremely disappointed with the sound when I first started playing it and as soon as I put RotoSounds on it the difference was like night and day!

So anyway, to my question. If there anything wrong with using stainless picks or are they hard on the strings?

Seems like a dumb question but I though I'd ask anyway!

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum Farmer Dude! I have a couple of Squire Precision bass guitars, cool choice Roto-Sounds, I use a Hot-Licks brass pick (not sure if they are around anymore)some times, this guitar pick company has always interested me:

Welcome!

I bought a Squier P bass back about 1992, great bass. as to your pick question, "Yes" the stainless steel pick will wear your strings out sooner, "how much sooner" is the question.

I'm betting your strings will still go dead from usual reasons before the pick does them in. BTW, did you buy the Bass new and change the strings, or did you change old strings? I ask because the original strings on my Squier were crap, too.

Thanks!

That is the brand of picks I use, even on the guitar they seem to produce a sound that plastic picks just can't IMO.

Thanks alot for answering my question, I see exactly what you are saying.

I bought the Bass new and was utterly disgusted with the strings form day one so I switched them first to Fender 7250's and played with those for a while but they still did not produce the sound I was looking for. I don't know why but they were difficult to drop tune as well. I read about RotoSound and seen their track record so I thought I'd give them a try. After using these for a while I can say I am 100% happy and will only buy RotoSounds from now on!
