I know there are a lot of G'n'R fans on here but are there any Van Halen fans?

Yeah I like a little VanHalen here and there. Mostly a 90's grunge guy though. Never really liked GnR either.

I was a big fan of VH all the way through maybe the 2nd Sammy album. Better or worse is a matter of debate but Sammy VH is different than Dave VH. Fair Warning was my favorite release by them.

I think they should be done, Eddie is in no shape anymore based on what we saw from their last tour. And booting Michael to put his kid on bass was a jerk move.

And I'm a huge Appetite for Destruction fan but like most bands that hit it that big that fast they fizzled out pretty fast. None of their other work is worth the plastic they're released on.

Speaking for myself and regarding both groups, I could tolerate their oldest stuff in very small doses when it first came out but that was then and this is now (if you catch my drift)..

Allstate Arena 88 with Sammy, liked him since Montrose, don't remember who opened for VH that night. Always liked them as they became popular during a transitional phase in the music world, the loss of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the high point of the disco era. Their contribution to rock music was/is huge. 8)

Love Roth-Era Van Halen, and the first two albums with Sammy were pretty decent, too. Huge fan of 'Appetite,' but not so much after that...

+1

I think I preferred SH best during his Montrose days.

I like more early Van Halen with David. The stuff with Sammy was OK to listen to on the radio station, while doing something else, like driving, working, painting the house, Great background music. But when you put on any of the first few VH albums with Dave, You better be ready to give your full attention to Rockin' Out, because that was what those albums were all about. Just play "Right Now" from the Sammy Era, Good tune, But then play "Somebody Get Me A Doctor" from the Dave Era. No Competition, you need to give your Full Attention to the ROCK! 8)

I think EVH had serious chops and flash, but over the years I've seen to many references to him "inventing tapping",...you can hear Duane Allman and Dickey Betts using the technique on the Fillmore album...but Eddie took it to new heights.
