it might sound nitpicky and dumb but hey that is what the internet is for right? I recently got a guitar a guitar and i never saw the strings wound they way they are. I use the standard (or what i consider standard) method of pulling the string bottom up and letting the excess string hold it in place at the tuner. The way this place ran the strings it is like the excess is in the hold and cut off but nothing is holding it in place, they must have loosely wrapped it then tightened it down then just cut off right at the hole. (sorry i know this is probably tedious to read because it is hard to describe). i guess i am asking has anyone ever seen strings run like that - reverse of standard?

I usually have 3 or 4 winds of the string around the peg to, as you said, hold the string in place. That is what I have always seen so I'll say "no, I haven't seen what you described".

I put my string through the tuning peg, and wrap the excess clockwise around the peg and under the string and then wind it. This essentially 'ties' the string and improves tuning stability. If you need a visual I'll snap a photo and show you what I'm talking about.
