i heard something about 50's guitars having "vintage correct" bodies and that they don't allow drilling for 11 hole pickguards... does anyone know if this applies to squiers classic vibe 50's guitar?... i want to use this guitar for a mod that i'm working on

Hi Ralph,

I have done exactly this with mine (CV 50s - currently being refinished, got bored of zebra look), no problems with 100 hole pick guard.

It was a 2 tone sb, I was blown away by it after the first play. Refinishing was done on it as an accident and had to do it, otherwise would't. Mine had a very thin high quality polyurethane finish. The guitar came with the 8 hole pg but it has a same pattern as any standard aftermarket 11 hole.

The pg on the picture is 11 hole parchment and not a original and I had to drill 3 tiny pilot holes and just add three more screws. The guitar is and excellent modding platform. I used it and still using it for experiments with pickups, setups, repairs, etc. It is in constant flux.
Currently is being refinished again since it has a really nice book matched wood pieces and nice grain.
The only trick is that it needs metric hardware as found on MIM standards. If you change to US/Vintage hardware, I am not sure how far you have to mod it.

The negative things on CV50s that I feel, are the flaky original pots and wiring (very good pickups) and very slim neck profile (very nice take on the vintage frets)
