My guess it that it's from a RUSH t-shirt ... do you have one?

I have no idea what an RJ Strat is ... what guitar company puts it's logo on the back anyway?

I am careful with what I wear when I play some guitars, because I have had one stick to the silk screening on a t-shirt or sweatshirt I was wearing ... I was able to avoid any permanent marking, but I am quite certain it can happen.

Thanks folks,
I can understand what you are saying about the finish type but the Idea that a letter could rub off a shirt or some other type of transfer is stupid. This guitar was being played by me or it was hanging on the wall. And if it was an issue with the finish then I think that all you Fender guys would have at least heard or seen it before. But you are ALL stumped and just guessing… these are letters not strage shapes.

I still think that is possible that MAYBE Fender is importing RJ bodies for some of their guitars. And that makes them assembled in America NOT made in America. And I won’t stop looking for a truthful answer until I get one. Something is not right here and blind Fender lovers where the wrong folks to ask.
Sorry to have bother you all…

NRA (TROLL) guy, maybe that’s why the Highway One’s are so “cheap” as you put it.
AND No power in the real world so you try and spit on others to feel good about yourself. (pathetic! :)

Seriously man, quite a few people have chimed in giving helpful, informative and truthful answers here. There's no reason to bite back like that.

No one here is "stumped", a simple google search of nitrocellulose lacquer could have told you everything you've been told here and more. Then you would see who's theory is actually "stupid" or not. And do you really think that if Fender were imported cheapo crap bodies to use on their USA series guitars that they would leave a giant stamp on it? Like I said before, if you pop the neck off and take a look at the neck pocket all your troubles would be solved. But if you want to go blame it on some conspiracy theory, be my guest. Obviously no one and no amount of evidence will be able to change your mind.

Good call on the rush shirt Orville. they have used a few fonts over the years, and a couple are very very close to that:

For example:

Flip it, crop it and compare:

Pretty close IMO, it is slightly different but they've used a few variations of their writing on different shirts, but looks super close for it being RUSH (factoring some distortion for the stretchiness of the shirt.)

I thought everyone knew that H1's are only just assembled in the US and the parts and stuff come from Mexico or somwhere else-- that's the talk I've heard. I tend to think it's something like that. Check out the tuners and necks on an H1 bass. They are exact to Mex Std.- I must also say that the finishes on the 2 H1's I had were not nice at all. They were how you say- poo poo!
AND it does happen that an imprint IS very easy to be left in a laquer finish. So let's not dismiss that one out of hand like that. We all know that's true.

It's like something melted to the nitro or stuck to it, like paint on lacquer.

OP, are you able to polish and buff?

haha my first thought was that maybe the OP was rocking an "RJ" rocker beer tshirt...

I think Dave got scared off after jumping the gun with the "NRA (troll) guy" comment.

I gotta say +1 to the big CV for all of the input he's put on this forum. He's definitely no troll. 8)

Troll Guy!!!!  My Friend I have been posting on the Boards for a very long time and have been very busy of late with some business and not been able to post as often. Look at My post and you will see pictures of many of the guitars I have. I have probably forgotten more then you know about guitars. People make fraud guitar that sell for larger amounts of money then HWY1's that you can get used for as little as 350 to 400 used heck they were at 499. new for some time. There is no difficulty making a good fake that most would never spot if you know what you are doing, but there are some that could so you might as well do it for a 1200. plus rig. Well I guess that makes Troll post 7000 plus something

Just bloody polish the guitar body a bit. It will disappear. CV Is NO TROLL. Whoever heard of RJ bodies? You bought it new from a place that sells hundreds of Fenders a week and has no need to buy in cheapo dodgey copies to make a quid.

Just polish the guitar (Angelo)!

Right. If it were mine, I'd have attacked it with some "scratch and swirl remover" (fine polishing compound) ... should do the trick.

The ultra soft n sticky unstable nitro finish has clearly picked up something that it has leant against. That's why the letters are back to front. Rush T shirt looks as good a candidate as anything else! Or maybe a strap?

The black surface makes it particularly noticeable - almost like a photographic negative.

Could have been done at anytime - maybe even during your own care at some point.

It's quirky - I like it. But if it bothers you, polish it out. But you'll be left with a shiny patch. I polished the whole of my Highway1. I was alarmed at just how fast the finish was wearing, and polishing it up makes it a lot tougher. End results are pretty good - but will never be as perfect as poly.

As for it being a fake or non Fender body? No of course not..

The finish is thin and stuff happens. I have to agree, maybe someone else played the guitar before you bought it. The imposed R does look like it could be from someone else's t-shirt.

IMHO, a cosmetic flaw is nothing as long as it plays and sounds well. Have a great day, try not to worry about it. If it does bother you, you could use it as a trade in for another guitar.

Angelo would never ever say anything bad about a HW1 though, and the OP's picture isn't an imprint from a Van Halen shirt!!!!

Angelo? I do believe that I am missing something.

I have noticed that the OP, Dave6060, has not had much to say after the "Rush" suggestion.

very troll-like behavior
