Hi Pink-Floyd-Fan,were you around when Piper at the Gates of Dawn,Umma Gumma, Saucerful of Secrets et al came out?Just wondering.First when these albums came out they caused a virtual stampede for the record stores of all "acid/alternative/psychedelic" rock crowd.I have fond memories of a crowd of us used to sit around and play these albums endlessly while partaking in various herbal and chemical concoctions. When these albums appeared they were the start of a whole new era in rock music and Sid Barrett and his crew were regarded as the vanguards of a whole new genre of music.I can understand you fully by not being fond of these albums as a lot of people were weirded out by them.I thought though that I'd talk about these albums from the perspective of someone who was there when these albums hit the charts and how mind-blowingly exciting these albums were for some of us.

No I was not around then, my parents weren't even around when the Piper at the Gates of Dawn came out (I'm 16). And I understand that when they came out they were extremely popular but I just can't listen to them. Don't get me wrong I love Floyd and some of their earlier stuff (although these are the last three before the dark side), including Atom heart Mother, Meddle and obscured by clouds, it's just Ummagumma and Piper at the gates of dawn that I don't really dig. Maybe I need to get some acid and listen to them? :D
