Good Afternoon Fender Folks!!

Current conundrum is that I would like a small valve amp for home practice.

I am considering either the Blackstar HT5 (Cant afford the HT5R) or the Vox AC4TV Head & Cab Bundle. (4W Tube Head and V112TV 1x12 Speaker Cabinet).

I like the Vox because it has 1/2 1 and 4 watt modes, which means lovely overdriven tones at low volume. Good for early morning and late at night playing. I like the Blackstar HT5 because its a legend of a practice / club amp and Blackstar rock!!

Any thoughts? All I will be running through it is my American HSS Strat Standard.

I have a Boss PS6 Harmonist. Original Jimmy Dunlop and Korg PX5D. But dont use them all of the time. If you need to factor that in??!

Cheers

Adam

I've tried both, as well as the class 5. I bought the HT5.

The AC4TV looks cool, but doesn't sound as nice as I thought it would. Plus, for the price of the AC4TV, you might as well get the AC15 for a little more.

The ISF on the HT-5 is also a nice touch -- I thought it was a gimmick at first, but you do get some nice tonal variations as a result.

I don't know anything about the Blackstar but I've read several positive reviews of the Vox head and cab. There are cool upgrade kits available for the Vox AC 4 TV from Mercury Magnetics-the power transformer folks.Mercury now has a contest too where you can win your upgrade kit.I'm a dyed in the wool Vox fan so my opinion is a bit biased, but then I know first hand how great Vox amps are.

Actually, one thing I forgot to mention: my 57 Champ is "better" than all of them. At least from a personal preference standpoint.

Still, if you're not looking to spend a stupid amount of money on a 5w amp, Blackstar's your all around best choice.

You get far better quality, price and sound from the VHT Special6 than the Vox. Good solid cab, well made. Point to point wired. Priced like someone stole it and wants rid of it quick.
I was very unimpressed with the vox. The gain is horrible. You get better drive from

or around $200 in the US

Hell of a lot of amp for the money.

I like the Blackstar but not enough to buy it.

If you just HAVE to have a Vox.... Musician's Friend is throwing in a free AC4TVMini if you purchase an AC15 or AC30.

I do like the AC15, so I might have gone for this prior to the Blackstar from a "that's a lot of stuff for your $$$ perspective"
