...but I was listening to the RHCPs today and I decided that Chad Smith is about as good as anybody out there.

I agree whole heartedly but is he better than CHad Smith ............ooooh.....yes.....no......yes......no.....aaaaaarrgh make up your mind Evan!!!!!!

Nope I think for just sheer driving tubthumping on a - drool - beautiful kit and for the sheer fun that is Chickenfoot I will lump for Mr Smith in this little head to head.......

Now whether he is the actual best......does this debate include dead guys.......

 :?

I really wasn't trying to be cute with the title. I felt like listening to the Chilis today and the more I listened, the more I noticed Smith's work on the drums. He never over-plays but when the time is right he does some things that remind me of John Bonham (who I think is the greatest of all time). I like the fact that he sits behind a very basic drum set and proves that that's all you need, unlike those whose set ups look like the throne of the drum gods. I just like him. There are undoubtedly flashier drummers who can really impress with their chops, but Smith is musical and he makes the Chilis better, and that's good enough for me.

Chad Smith is a good drummer...nice funky grooves. When it comes to drummers, I like Mike Portnoy and Tony Royster Jr.

Any drummer that can keep a variety of beats, has a personal and unique approach, doesn't owe me money, or equate volume and skill as one and the same is a good drummer in my opinion. A great drummer has all of these except for the fact that I owe him/her money ^^
