I thought I'd post those for the younger guys maybe. I've read posts where they (posters) will tell you they don't know about this or that- and some of it is pretty simple. Everyone has to start somewhere- so I figure books are where it's at. Of course I am not sure that people read books anymore. I know I've had a book in reading progress for at least 20 years-- meaning I am always reading. I've read all the books I posted. I can't remember everything in them but they made me repair shop literate. I can understand and convey whatever I need to when I take a guitar in. They also help when buying used guitars. And very important- I can do most of my own repairs..... I learned that to make a nut I have to make four!! HA!!! Anyway- I just thought I'd post the books to maybe help someone out a little .

iPod/iPhone + Guitarist Reference app + Gibson app

These are pretty good, especially Guitarist Ref. Such a good resource for everything. It's like a girmore + chord book + ... everything. Haha, kinda. No video lessons, just a resource, but an excellent one.

It's been my observation that many on this forum (and others) prefer the "instant gratification" of suckling the internet teat rather than actually sitting down and reading a book......any book. Seems like the joy of independent research and discovery has taken a backseat to fraternal joviality and blissful ignorance when it comes to the history and technology of amplified electric guitars.

Your list is very good though, sir -- I commend you.

Arjay

Another good book, for someone who's been playing a few years and really wants to step up their knowledge of notes and phrasing and patterns is Solo Guitar Playing by Frederick Noad. Pretty good; in-depth book for anyone that really wants to dig in and learn the technical aspects of playing the guitar. I'm working through it right now, and even after playing for 18 years, it's taking me a while, but I am making progress and already noticing improvements in my playing.

After reading about pickups and how to wind them I decided to do it.Where I worked we had a computor winder . I made a jig to hold the flatwork and magnets (old strat pickup), selected the turns (8350), left turn, right turn, starting position, wire pitch, speed, acceleration, clockwise, stop-

I bought the correct wire - and away it went- soldered the leads-- took it to the guitar shop and the guy put it in a strat in the bridge position- it was 6.75 or something like that- it worked! Sounded good. A well know guitarist was there and played the strat and liked it.

Why don't I make pickups? Mainly because the winder I was using cost $10,000! HA! It was a great experiance and it came from reading the above books.

It's all the same- it's easy to learn but it's hard to be good.
