Hey guys, so after a long time debating, I've decided to swap out the bridge p/u in my Tele to a single coil-size humbucker. I want something with pretty good output, and I'm looking for something with good mids as well. Any Suggestions? I play rock/blues which lately is leaning to the rock side.

hay Tim, was checkin out one of my guitar books and came across a seymour duncan twin coil that gives an near identical sound to an old strat pick-up but is hum-cancelling, the rear pick-up is a seymore duncan JB model, just a note to you.

Thanks Alex, and I'm doing well. You? I have looked at the JBjr, but I think I want even higher output than that pickup. The little 59 sounds nice as well.

i guess you still want that twang tone, yet still have some elements of mid tone?? the blacktop tele bridge humbuckers great for that, but its not the size of a single coil

For sure, the tele twang is a big part of the reason I bought this guitar. I've been looking around tonight, and I think the Dimarzio Area Hot T is gonna be exactly what I'm looking for. Now comes the decision of what to do first...new pickup or my fret job.

ok tim. i have both the lil 59er and the JBjr. i think the jr is hotter in my opinion.
you would have to experience it. its a badazz pickup. about the only thing i know from experience hotter is one of the lynch screaming demons.
some folks say that they are not hotter, but they sure do sound like it to me by a long shot. honestly, if your just going rock or hard rock, the JBjr will do you more than well.
im dang pleased with mine and remember i come from a heavy metal background and i like screamers when it comes to pickups. man you can pull off some serious punchy leads with these JB's bro. harmonics easy as candy, and plenty of sustain to boot.
from anthrax, to maiden, to zombie, its all in there bro.

Single-coil sized Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates

Get that Billy F Gibbons squank.

The only thing is the fact that this is for a Strat, and there might be mounting problems (and I hate it when I have a problem mounting  ).

You might contact Seymour Duncan and see if they make one for the Tele bridge position.

Wouldn't look anywhere else except at this Tim.
I fully agree with Mr Armadillo

If you're still not getting enough punch from the amp, try using a volume boost just to add a touch more on the input signal. Be carefull though, the sound will quickly turn to mush.

Niki dug a little deeper than I did! I knew they had to make one. You mentioned you were playing harder bluesy rock, so a Pearly Gates seems to be a better fit than some of the more metal-oriented pickups.

He's right about a volume boost, too. In fact, if you can find a good boost pedal (I use the MXR Micro Amp, but there's a dozen different ones on the market), it might give you what you're lacking in the pickup department.

The Micro Amp is like a "more of me" pedal; it emphasizes and brings out all the little nuances you miss with "less-hot" (milder?) pickups...and with hot pickups, it absolutely roars. It doesn't color the tone or turn it to a puddle of oatmeal, even when it's dimed. I use it like another volume knob--readjusting it for solos, to match guitar volumes (when I switch axes) or just to match the song itself.

Another good boost pedal is the Keeley Katana; it's quite similar to the MXR Micro Amp and since the knob is on the side, it's easier to adjust on the fly.

BBE also makes a couple of different models; I bought a BBE Freq Boost when it was the Stupid Deal Of The Day on Musician's Friend, but it worked better for humbuckers than single coils. I sold it to a friend that plays a Les Paul exclusively and he loved it. They also have one called the Boosta Grande, but I've never played through that one.

nope your not paying attention cowboy, he said,
"I play rock/blues which lately is leaning to the rock side".

leaning towards the ROCK side. so, why not go for the hot
pickup in the bridge for the ROCK within him, and then, either
leave the stock neck, OR, install a dimarzio virtual blues in the
neck and both the blues and the rock are covered rather nicely?
:D

Bought the BBE Green Screamer. Very unimpressed, just another tubescreamer clone. Hope their other pedals are better.
