My Gretsch Tennessean is called George for obvious reasons and my wine coloured Les Paul is called Lucy for the same reason. My black/rosewood left handed Strat strung righty is called Jimi for obvious reasons also and I just call the rest my babies of course except for Brian my Vox Teardrop of course from the best of the Rolling Stones Brian Jones.

yeah...the green one,the sunburst,the blue one,the maple neck......
I learned a long time ago if you name a guitar a girl's name, some other girl would ask you why you didn't name it after her.... so I would tell them to give me a good reason to do it...wasn't too bad until I hit 55 and now girls in their twenties think I'm too old.

I've got a black Strat with a rosewood Peavey Predator neck on it (I didn't do it) and it's got a black pearloid pick guard and three black pickups - painted Lace Sensor Blue, no-name middle single and bridge is a Seymour-Duncan split-rail. Knobs are black, switch and whammy buttons are black.

I bought it from my partner - he named it - are you ready for this? blackie - and put the name in gold lower case letters on the top horn. blackie it is. And that guitar plays and sounds like an absolute dream! My other 50+ guitars have no names and I don't name my amps, either.

For some reason the company that makes them generally names mine.
Like fender called one a J5 Tele, another one was a Jim Root Tele, and they also called one an American Standard HH. Gibson however just called it a Les Paul Jnr.
It's quite selfish of them really.

I am probably quite disrespectful.
My Strat is 'the big ugly' and my tele creation is the 'blue grunt'
The rest are just the 'black one' or 'no the other black one' or something along that lines....
:D

They seem to name themselves,or at least, tell you their name, "sometime into the relationship."

i think i do to a point, my jaguar is "the jag" and my electromatic pro is "the gretsch"... i guess either i am lazy or un-imaginative. I don't seem to make up names but kinda shorten them to make it easy to say.

No, it's lame. Never understood the whole naming of inanimate objects (or body parts), thought that it was a thing for lonely sailors, and those without a girl friend. I can understand naming hurricanes after women, but a guitar or car or bike, nah!
