Great.....I'll just make a list of people I've known in the last 40 years who are either DOA or just completely incapable of functioning as a productive human being today because of substance abuse...
I was quite young during the psychedelic era....Hated It, it was really all smoke and mirrors ( No Puns intended  )
I have no wish to see that idiocy return full bore.

I think you'll find that the musicians that are still viably around today, are the one's that realized quite early that psychedelic drugs were a quick One Way Road to Oblivion... :(

There is nothing funny or cool about trying to interact with an old childhood friend today, who is incapable of having an intelligent coherent conversation because they have fried their synapses long ago thru substance abuse.

seriously man, wrong choice. i'm sure you haven't heard my storys of severe health issues, which i nearly died from. an i'll admit the side effects its left me with today, i used to sometimes really wanna die. barely ever now though. do you know why? cause i found a outlet other than drugs. i spend hours in my room just writting poems and (if my hands up for it) playing guitar. yeah sometimes i do get pretty pissed off with myself, but not as much as i used to.

you hear what i'm sayin? quite the drugs and find yourself a better outlet than drugs. if guitar dont work for you, draw, write, whatever it takes to get caught up in the moment y'know? you may use drugs as a recreational type thing but in a month it'll become an addiction. drugs ruin peoples lifes
Nothing personal but who are you to tell me what choices i make are wrong, its just pot, you cant get addicted

...as long as you keep it to pot only. But when that particular buzz isn't keeping the demons at bay, you might think, "Hey a little _____ will do the trick!" and thus starts your cycle.

...and Riley wasn't telling you what to do, he was just relating his experiences and (just like all the old farts here) warning you to be careful.

Peace, bro...I hope you can find it somewhere besides inside a ZigZag.

Woah there! I'm a big advocate for legalization, my argument being it's not devastating, like harder drugs, and it's a personal choice. If I can die on alcohol I should be able to suffer the side effects of a night on too much pot (ya know, foggy head and a little tired as opposed to puking your guts and major headache).

But make no mistake, it's an addictive drug. You'll know because when you run out you'll get seriously grumpy. Granted, only half as grumpy as a cigarette smoker, but that grumpiness is the effect of addiction.

Just like caffeine and nicotine, thc is addictive. BTW, running out of coffee is a lot worse than being out of weed.

Negative Creep, you really are unnecessarily hostile. I mean honest to God, what the hell was the point of that religion comment? :? Furthermore, you seem hellbent on making sure everyone knows you smoke weed, which is just f***ing annoying and gives EVERY smoker a bad name/image. I myself have smoked weed a few times, I don't go about advertising it to the damn world.

ps Try making an actual argument instead of "UR WRONG *insert unfunny, non-offensive name here*". People will actually see you as intelligent instead of just a snotty brat teen.

Coming from a 14 year old, by the way.

'Atta boy, Floyd! Especially the "unnecessarily hostile" bit. (And you spelled it right!)

It warms my heart to know it wasn't just me that thought he was being a snotty brat teen. It also warms my heart to know that it wasn't just me being a grouchy old man...not that I'm that old...yet.

Back in 1984 I had a friend who was more like a brother to me die of an accidental overdose. He had taken what they believe is no more than 3 sleeping pills and washed it down with about 6 oz. of light rum. This was certainly not enough of each to cause any harm but the combination was enough to kill him and that's the same way we lost Jimi.

For me psychedelic was defined by endless melodic guitar solos. No one seemed to notice that the lead guitar player was now on his 312th bar and still going. I think it had something to do with our temporary and for some permanent disconnect between time and space. I still can remember gazing fixedly into the red light on my stereo amp and seeing the face of God while Hendrix played "All Along the Watchtower" and a terrified woman screamed in maniacal fear just outside my window which turned out hours later (once I had returned to earth) to be a cat in heat hanging around the front of my apartment. Then there was the time that I coughed up this green fuzzy little animal in the back yard of a party I was at and spent 10 minutes running around in circles trying to stomp it to death. For some reason, at the time I thought I was having a lot of fun. I could go on and on but I think I'd better stop now before I trigger a flashback.

But seriously folks do like I did and quit that stuff when you're young. Otherwise you never get going where you need to be.

Can you say........Nightmare......

I never did Hallucigenic's as a teen in the early 70's, I just could not get the why. :?: and for what purpose...
That being said, as a not so healthy adolescent child being administered various medications which often resulted in vivid dreams and nightmares, I really had no desire to have my waking world in anything but reality.

"Enlightenment"......that which a Gen-X pothead achieves when he ultimately discovers that there is more to life than driving a used-and-abused Ford Escort, working two or three McJobs simultaneously, and living in his momma's basement -- all because of his slavish devotion to the 420 lifestyle.

Good luck with that!

Arjay
