nirvana-in utero. i guess it just made me have an epiphany

EDIT;

or, its a toss up between ramones debut album and that, the ramones debut album because its simple, yet hard to play cause you need a $@!& load of endurance to play the whole album. and that blew me away. that made me realise i could have fun if i played pyscadelic rock, or the simplest form of rock there is.

Ha well um, Green Day's American Idiot.
Everyone and their brother is all "they sold out" and all of that stuff but I heard it 5 years ago and I wanted to play. It sort of taught a "Not everyone who is above me is always right," lesson. I just figure if you were to say "what album got him playing," most people would answer American Idiot.

The Traveling Wilburys Volume 1. As a 19 year old in 1989, it blew my mind that anyone could write and record this in three weeks. There will never be a single colaboration on any albums with artists of this calibre again, unfortunately. This album would be closely followed by Mystery Girl by Roy Orbison and Full Moon Fever by Tom Petty. All pretty much done by the same producing team and musicians. It was a tiny golden period in the late eighties and left an impression on me for life.

"Walk Don't Run" The Ventures

MADE this then-kid realize he NEEDED to play melodic electric guitar and here was the example to follow.

Many other artists, groups and albums followed, but that black disc and its 12 cuts were learning the ABCs, electric guitar-wise.

The two albums (actually 8-tracks) that changed my tastes in music I first heard in about 1976 was "Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer Live, and Led Zeppelin 2. And many, many, more after that. 8) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ap04rbrKmVw Check It Out!

The album that influenced me to take up bass was by a little known band, but one I and my friends just couldn't get enough of = "Medusa" by Trapeze- featuring Glenn Hughes on bass. I loved the tone of the bass and guitar on that album.

There are others too but the most important album? Probubly the 1st USA release of the Beatles.

ONE album that had the BIGGEST effect and became the sound track for a major part of my life would have to be The White Album. There's just so much there to get into.

I must be some kind of misfit or something. I like many an album for many a reason yet I cannot categorize any of them as, "important in my life". I couldn't even go as far as declaring what my favorite one of all time is. Obviously, YMMV.

I'm kinda with Martian here, in that my fave tunes, (or albums), keep changing. A few minutes ago I heard "Over the rainbow" by Israel Kamalaka (can't remember his last name) and it brought back amazing memories. A beautiful voice and a ukulele - who knew?

It's music, it's personal, and it's in constant flux.

Peace, Gridlok 8)
