So the rig's set up, you've tuned the guitar and you are plugged in ready to rock.......

What's the first thing you play?

Just curious

I tend to warm up the chubby digits with Life in the Fast LAne or Hole Hearted....anyone else have standard tunes or exercises they get stuck into before they really get going?

Paul Simon Hearts & Bones mostly if I'm alone.
Bandwise. We just decide on something and go for it to set levels.

on my Stratocaster normally its little wing or under the bridge.
On my Ibanez RG its Dokken-Mr Scary and dream until tomorrow.

Lots of love for lots of things but lately this is my habit :)

I don't really have any specific song I play to start out. Some days I'm in the mood to play one of my songs, other days I'll feel like some heavier music, just all depends on my mood.

One of my songs called "Let Me In"--it started out as a warmup song (no lyrics) I jammed with for almost 15 years, and one day some lyrics just popped into my head. We recorded it the next week, and my drummer said, "Where did this come from, and why did it take so long?" Since the opening riff hits every string at least twice, it helps me to know if the guitar is completely in tune as well.

The other warmup song is one I call "Texas Shuffle (Swagger & Twang)", which is an instrumental shuffle in E.
