In the immortal advice of that great 20th century American philosopher, Frank Zappa, two sage pieces:

"Shut up and play yer guitar."

and

"Shut up and play yer guitar some more."

And explore in this opinion, gobs of musical genres. Congrats and HAVE FUN! Welcome.

Welcome, Rik!

NO ONE buys a Fender Strat by mistake as such things are one's destiny; lots of luck with it for many years to come!!

Cheers mate, I'll take a butchers,

Ha - a Londoner? If so, greetings from south of the river. And welcome to the Forum.

Actually a Brummie, just like the phrase :D

No probs. It's one of the few pieces of rhyming slang that's entered the language to the extent we can all use it without sounding like we're trying just a bit too hard. (D'ya hear me, Guy Ritchie? ...Still, I do enjoy that bit of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. :D )

So speaking as a Brummie, have you run across Chantel McGregor? She's from your neighbourhood and still seems to be doing most of her gigging in those parts. I saw her the other night in London - she was smokin'! A night standing six feet in front of her rig would have you rushing home to explore your note choices in new detail, without a doubt! Catch her if you can: Birmingham's best kept secret...:

Hi Al: who's her number one fan - is that you, me or my missus? (My wife wants to adopt her - but that seems to be her usual response to guitar talent. She wanted to adopt Joe Bonamassa too. Least, that's what she said she wanted to do to him.)

Anyroadup: her accent certainly sounded more Bradford than Brum to me. But she kept talking about how her dad was so nice to ferry her down from Birmingham all the time (aaaaah) - so maybe she grew up one place and lives the other?

Don't know - and who cares? Her CD is out in a week. I'll be getting it, and seeing more shows. That's a young woman with a future ahead of her. 8)

And to Rik: she looks about 12 or something. If she can do it surely we can too...?

Cheers - C

Well after the blues gig well probably have to share her hehe. As for your good lady wanting to adopt JB its just being sociable i reckon, sometimes starts with stuffed toys then animals, then sometimes people, all the time getting a bit more expensive :D

The guy at work kinda hooks onto peeps then goes an sees em over and over like a groupie, another is a lass called Amy Wodge, kinda spoiled it for him when she moved to south Wales apparently i kid you not! :o

Ha homie!

I'm down around Newtown/Lozells and Kiddiminster (yes I know weird combination) for the forseeable future. I'll give you a few pointers if required mayyyyte.

Truth is theres plenty of great teachers round town. Get yourself to PMT down Washwood Heath, or Rich Bich studios/Pacific Light and Sound (they fix Claptons amps) on the Bristol rd at Selly Oak.
Any of them places will tell you of good teachers in the area.
You may find some info at what was Musical Exchanges (now Reverb I think) at the Snow Hill end of Corporation street. (massive massive guitar shop once, the biggest in Europe).
Or alternatively, but guaranteed result. Get to Franks Fair Deal round the back of Debenhams/Selfridges.
You'll find a good teacher out of one of them shops.

Ooo - fair enough: your man has a point. I haven't heard a note of her playing yet, and I'm already beginning to like her:

Ha - I see on her website she has a gig coming up at The Wharf in Tavistock. That was where I first saw Bonamassa, along with about 300 other brave souls, one full-moonlit hound-of-the-Baskervilles Dartmoor summer's evening. A legendary venue, and always lucky for me! Maybe I'll give Ms Wadge a look-see.

Your tips always turn out to be good, Al! 8)

Cheers - C
