Why would Fender want to pay money (the cost of running the boards) to subsidize the ability of people to sell used equipment?

Fender is in the business of selling new gear, first and foremost.

Beyond that, there's the issue of channel conflict. Many Fender dealers also sell used gear. When you go buy your new Fender guitar, and trade in an old Fender guitar, that dealer has the ability to make some extra money by selling used equipment.

Finally, given how make fakes and forgeries there are out there, do you think Fender wants ANYTHING to do with supporting liars?

To put it another way, the forum is designed to foster enthusiasm about Fender and its products, and provide an avenue where customer support issues can often be solved by unpaid volunteers. Anything beyond that is permitted as long as it doesn't conflict with Fender's ability to run a successful business.

PS: the other site also has 320,000 less members--yup 320 thousand less

I don't think you "Pi$$ed" anyone else off, they just answered your question, though maybe not how you'd have liked them to answer. "if its easier to sell used guitars that makes it quicker to turn around and buy New guitars" Not really. All of those that purchase used gear could have theoretically purchased new gear. Those selling aren't guaranteed to buy Fender. Too much risk, very little reward.

This is what I would have said, if I had more brains an education. From now on Carly speaks for me; I'm just going to lurk.

You may not hit Dallas before this years Dallas International Guitar Show, but it comes around every year. They have some unreal guitar players that put on live shows. Check out Andy Timmons (if you don't know about him already) at this link:

http://www.guitarshow.com/index.php

There is another good guitar show in Arlington (minus the live entertainment) that comes around in October.

Also Bedford, TX in Tarrant County has a blues festival. I went last year and it was just great. 5 bucks get you in and parking is free. I spent $15 and got a folding chair right in front of the stage.

i guess i dont see the risk but thought it would bring more members and more interaction between current members--i guess i just like lookin and guitars and the classifieds just make it easier--i've been a fender guy since 1977 and dont intend to change but i'm always shopping for that smoking deal i just cant pass up--I just purchased my new American Deluxe HSS for $150 .00 more than the non HSS guitars are selling for used..i just figured guitars are a lot like cars --you go look at used one and 1/2 the people end up buying New-thanks for the imput :)

Notice that the forum hasn't any advertisements. That's where classified websites recieve their revenue, and why Google is the billionaire company that it is today. Simply put everything is courtesy of Fender, and I'm happy with the environment that they have put together for us where we can discuss guitars and everything else.

I like the forums as they are now, and although I do see how there is potential for minor issues if there was a classified section here, but I wouldn't mind if we at least had a section of the forum where it'd be ok to post maybe wanted ads. That way it would be a centralized location and Fender could easily protect themselves with a 2 or 3 paragraph legal disclaimer. Just a thought, either way I'll hang around the forums.

the way i look at it is if i'm buying a used car and and i have to go to another store to purchase because you dont sell used i might purchase there used car or even a new one from them instead-- if you buy a used fender it was still made by Fender-not Gibson and fender made a profit from selling it and maybe the guy selling it buys a New Fender--more profit for fender-- :D you guy have some good points-i just dont agree with all of them :)

this is the whole Heading at another site--seems pretty simple to me

It's come up a few times again, so I thought a sticky might be in order.

*Please post an asking price. It's okay to say OBO, trades, etc. But at least give us gear sluts an idea!

*Please remember sales or trades for music gear only. This is not a general classified. No other gear or items for sale or trade.

*Please include your email address if it's private from view.

*Please consolidate posts. I know we don't get the traffic of other pages, but it's good form. One sale thread at a time please.

*Absolutely NO Forum Police, or Lynch mobs. If you dislike an asking price in a post, feel free to not buy it. Please do not comment in someone else's sale thread.

*Please either delete, or update your thread as 'SOLD' if it is sold, or removed from the block, etc.

*Also, it's caveat emptor. Be sure what your buying. THE forum cannot take responsibilty for any deals gone bad. Do your homework, get a phone number, make sure your cool! It doesn't happen very often, but there have been an occasional issue.

*BE COURTEOUS! Being rude is not going to sell your gear.

*Please participate in the rest of the forum. If people get to know you, they will be more willing to purchase your gear for sale.

*Here's the biggie. If there's an issue, REPORT IT. We don't always check every thread, and need to know if a sale thread is going bad.

Thanks for your cooperation!

Well, the section wouldn't be for strictly buying/selling gear/guitars per se, but rather a place where musicians can coordinate with other musically/un-musically talented people for getting together, practicing, offering lessons/resources.

Just my 0.02.

I see what you're saying, those are general rules for any area of the internet slightly tweaked for sales. Frankly, I don't see how it would be good from a business sense. This is obviously just my opinion but if I were affiliated with Fender I wouldn't touch this with a 10-foot pole. It has the potential to negatively impact their brand. If a deal goes bad, buyer is dissatisfied, seller is uncooperative, fraud, whatever happens: it impacts Fender's brand image since it happened under their domain. Legalities, labor costs, negative brand image, potential loss of new product sales, etc. Fender doesn't receive any profits on sales of used gear, not sure where that came from. As for other meetups & things, again the legality of it would be a risk. Then again maybe because I'm a girl I'm worried about being chopped up into little bits or someone stealing my skin to use as a decorative lampshade. Just my opinions, don't mean to rain on the parade but I'd keep the 2 separate.
