Aren't most albums made by a bunch of rich guys? Idk. It's a matter of opinion I guess. Pink Floyd is by far not my favorite band (that would go to Avenged Sevenfold) but The Wall is just amazing.

Most yes, I was referring to the period many talented artists go through when starting on their respective commercial journey's. It sometimes takes a while before they become hasa's or flying pigs as it were.

The wall's whole package with the birth of Music Vid and animation as a piece of art i think for the time it was absolutely pioneering. I don't think that anyone could deny it would have to be one of the standout notable albums of all time. It is in my top 20. I could do with out the 15 Minute tracks on some albums but hey..... I reckon they have some great tracks. Listen to young lust or have a cigar or money again if you doubt they rock....Even if you dont like their style they rock.

Good album? Yes. Top 10? IMHO, how can it be? I can't give you a Top 10, but I would rate ALL of these albums as "better", again, IMHO:

10) Dark Side of the Moon
9) The White Album
8) Sticky Fingers
7) Sgt. Pepper
6) Abbey Road
5) Electric Ladyland
4) Born To Run
3) Highway 51 Revisited
2) Are You Experienced?
1) Abraxas

This is one possible Top 10 List for me.

I could easily do another Top 10 with albums by The Who, Stevie Wonder, Dave Brubeck, John McLaughlin, Cream, Derek and the Dominos, Blind Faith, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Crosby, Still, and Nash (and Young), and STILL not have "The Wall". And I'd be just as satisfied with this list as the first (as I would now have Tommy, Disraeli Gears, Layla, Blind Faith, Time Out!, the first CSN album (think Suite: Judy Blue Eyes) etc.)

That doesn't mean The Wall is not a good album, just that "The Best Ever" doesn't mean much. IMHO.

The Wall is a great album, but I do not believe in "best album ever" "best ever song" "best guitar player" etc.

There are just to many great albums, songs, guitarist, etc. to say one of them is the best ever.

Maybe I change my mind next Monday, and I vote for The Wall as the best album ever.

Why? Because Monday I am going to see Roger Waters, who is performing "The Wall"

I am a great fan of Pink Floyd, saw them about 10 times, every concert was just amazing, also saw Roger Waters "In The Flesh" a few years ago, just great.

I am sure I will have a great time Monday, will let you know if I vote "The Wall" as best album ever.

+100 :D

The Wall is one of the few album that i can listen without ever getting tired...for me is "the album" and I think tha Roger Waters is the greatest composer of rock in the last 40 years.

The Wall.....he wrote in a year...no one like him!!

Yesterday I saw "The Wall" , a great show, visually a great experience, I had a wonderful evening.

Yesterday, driving home after the concert, I might have voted "The Wall" as the best album ever, but I had no computer with me.

As I said before I do not believe in "the best ever album/song/guitarist/etc." The Wall is a great album, but there are (luckily) a lot of great albums.

Sorry guys, but I hate Pink Floyd - there said it!

Reason: I had to endure this live at Earls Court, London in 1981 - along with my then hippy mother and her boring hippy friends - 2 hours of my life I will never get back!

*****************

I can't defend ANY music against a charge of boring (I'm assuming it wasn't just your mum and her friends that were boring, but the band was too). "Boring" is the worst thing any art can be, because once boring, the bored audience is lost to any message other than.."WHEN IS THIS D*** THING GOING TO END????"

But in 1974-74, my roommate would play Dark Side every night...I actually enjoyed it, even though it was vinyl on a cheesy stereo and sounded like tin.

I also find the music alone much better than the movie to go with. Anyone else?

I've listened to The Wall, Heard it when it first came out, Saw the movie many times in the theater at midnight in a perceptive mood, I've enjoyed a few of the songs, But If i had to have one album on a desert island and I got The Wall with me, I would end up throwing it in the ocean after a few listens. I think in that situation, listening to that album may drive one to suicide. Especially the whole second half of the second album with all that stupid whining court trial stuff. That's a real downer. 8)

I am a Pink Floyd fan, but I was never incredibly enamored with The Wall. Personally, I think their best album ever was Animals.

As for best concept album? Sorry, but The Wall is not even close in my book. I would put the Who's Quadrophenia or Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime in the top slot. And behind those two comes Tommy and Rush's 2112. The wall's story is too disjointed, and the music ... as good as it is, it is not as good as the aforementioned concept albums.

Big fan myself.

Just watched the Berlin concert dvd from '91 the other night. Great. Super guitar playing even if it wasn't DG.
