Hey guys.

For the past year I've been searching for a new guitar that sounds just like I want it to.
Currently I play a Telecaster Deluxe black dove. I'm a rhythm guitar player in a band.
I think the Telecaster black dove sounds a little to sharp, but when i turn my bridge pickup down, I lose all of my bright tone.
I would like to buy a new guitar that doesn't sound thin but sounds warm and bright.
Do you think a normal tele with the single coils will sound like this?
Or do you know a guitar for me that will sound warm and bright? (Mustang, Jaguar?)

Thanks for your help!

I'm from Belgium so excuse me if my english is totally wrong =)

Instead of backing off on your guitar's tone control, instead try rolling your amp's treble control down a notch or two.

Allready tried that, Didn't help much.
I'm playing a Hot rod deluxe and the treble is at 3 and it still sounds sharp.
Do you think the P90's could be the problem?

Thanks =)

P90s generally sound fat (compared to traditional single-coils).

How much of the amp's presence control are you using?

I'm using the presence at 5.
So a tele with single-coils will sound even sharper than my current tele?

A standard Tele is a pretty bright guitar.

My original '57 LP Jr with a P90 is very chunky in comparison.

You might try a speaker change -- perhaps a Celestion V30.

Re the Jag and Mustang:They certainly wouldn't sound as bright as the Tele and the Jaguar would sound a good bit fuller and warmer than the Mustang. So in that instance I'd give the Jag the nod.

Hi sandercamps. :)

A lot of rhythm players wouldn't be using the treble pickup at all. In other cases you might use both pickups. I usually have my guitar tone on 10 and my amp on 7 treble and 3 bass. I play thru a speaker most people would consider very bright; a JBL K120. On a strat I either use the neck pickup or the neck/middle combo for rhythm.

If we could hear your tone, it would give us a reference. :)

My Tele is very bright, as is pretty typical. I set my amp (not a hot rod) with the treble on 1 and the presence on about 3.5. Any higher than that and it can sound really sharp. Teles are, IMO, incredible sounding guitars, but they have a very distinct tone and you have to find your sweet spot as far as settings go, and once you do it can be very rewarding.

Thanks for all the advice!
I tested a few tele's in the guitarshop in town.
A american special and a road worn player.
I was surprised that they sounded very good!

Please give both the Jazzmaster and Jaguar a try. Straight reissues with single coils. Preferably with .011s or .012s. Jive with your amp settings, too.

Outstanding, capable, delightful, sensual, dramatic, comfortable, enormously underrated guitars.

Thanks for the reactions on my music!
Today I'm gonna visit the music store again, I'm gonna try a jaguar and a mustang.
I'll let you know what I think about the guitars.
