Anyone else notice that the price of Fender stuff just went up? This seems to correspond to items that were in stock yesterday (eg. Deluxe Reverb at Musicians' Friend) now out of stock. The price increased $100. I suspect that the out of stock issue is just to help people to forget the prices they had just the other day.

Oh well. I was *this* close to buying one online yesterday, and when I refreshed my webpage this morning, I saw the price increase (and out of stock notice). Now I'll go to my local shop (which I forgot about it, since it's a few towns away). They sell Fender.

The internet *used* to be a great place to buy stuff, but now that Musicians' Friend has gobbled up Music123 and Woodwind and Brasswind, everyone's online prices seem mysteriously the same. I'm sure this is happening in other industries too. What a shame that the great bargaining power that the internet should privide only serves to make things more uniform.

Sorry for the rant - I'm just bummed. In truth, I should have remembered my local shop anyway. It's great to *have* a local shop, even if it's not always the cheapest place to buy stuff. Sometimes you need something right away, and especially with an amp, you just have to try them.

Peace,

M

Okay - well, Musician's Friend upped their prices, but zzounds didn't, and I found a few other shops that didn't as well. At least they haven't done it yet.

I'm still going to go with my local shop (unless they absolutely gouge me), but I'm expecting them to at least sell it for what the online price - and hopefully a little better.

Sorry to have jumped the gun on this - I should have done a better job researching it before posting it.

Peace,

M

It's not suprising. The shape our economy has been in, it's a wonder it didn't happen sooner.

My "one and only" shop usually meets internet prices. Although it does no good to try and haggle with'em about it. I don't expect them to beat the internet prices, just as long as they meet them is fine with me.

Yah I know they are owned by them, that irritates me more... nobody wants to feel like they're getting ripped off, and our GC doesn't get that. they put prices on gear they dont wanna sell and just piss people off.

Obviously designed to leave room for the new PTP '65 Princeton Reverb to come in at $799, the old DRRI price.

Some Squier prices have also gone up too! Squier Custom Tele, the one without the Duncan Design P90s, used to be about $30 less than what the price for them are now...Maybe I should GAS out on another Squier Standard Telecaster, just in case their prices go up too

you do realize the shop increase the prices... the economy is down a bit and they need to make more money.... fender seems to keep a constant price on their site, even though you can't buy direct, but it seems to me it would just be the managers / owners of the stores dictating the prices

i could be wrong, but it seems logical

Well Fender has changed some of the list prices as well as Squier Standard Teles used to list at $332.99, and they now list at $349.99, so Fender raised their list price, and in order to hopefully keep profit margins the same, the shops have increased the retail prices too...Now there are individual stores who will price as they see fit, but I think that Fender has indeed raised prices all across the board, and we the lucky consumers get to make up the difference.

JMO....

While the internet is a great place to shop and give you a good idea of what you should spend on a specific product, I think it has hurt the reputable mom and pop places that cater to musicians, community and generally give you 100% better service than the box stores and the internet could ever do.

Myself, I'll pay more to have the ability to support those guys, the relationships I've made w/these guys are great.

From going in and just noodling for hours and bsing to getting a phone call the minute a guitar I've talked about comes in on trade etc..

I guess I'm ramblin but you get the jist of what I'm saying.

You get what you pay for. Theres plenty of cheap guitars and accessories out there but if you want something to last you`ll spend the extra money and get the better product. A cheap guitar will not bring you the same return as a Fender will years down the road. Their guitars are like buying real estate, they go up in value the longer you hold onto them.

I would say that the new price jump in the American Standard line is less about the guitars and more about the enormous ad campaign and changes in the production line. All those things cost money, or take time...which is money.
