Nope! Keep on trying!

And it's not a Hauser! Maybe coming close there, Andy!

Regards to the Chimps!

:)

Not Hofner... but close!

I'm thinking that it may be a Framus.

The Monkeys say "Banana", but it sounded at lot like "Hohner"?

Guitslinger, 50 points to Canada! Well done! Thanks everyone for playing, and let's see some more pics now! Maybe someone can tell me what kind of Framus it is? The game goes on!

By the way, it's quite an old Framus, so we all might need to tap into Andy's ape-laboratory to get some archived info about old stuff from the 60's!

So, what do you have on this piece?

It came to me to get a new bridge carved, but I just hadn't time to do it yet. Some day I will fix it and we'll see how it sounds... ;-)

Cheers folks!

Nutter

P.S.: Sorry Andy, no Hofner

Ah Ha! Congrats GS! Well played Sir. :D

Info on a 60's Framus?

Well, I've just upgraded my Research Team...

So far we can confirm that 3 out of 4 Monkee's prefer coffee (Dave prefers Tea, of course).

Right, for all humanoids out there, here's some more piccies! (we love those, I know!)

I do have a shot of the model name tag inside the body, but to keep it interesting, I won't present it to you. Ha! Now, Framus was quite big in their heyday, so even folks abroad knew the name of the German manufacturer. Anyway, here's some more visuals, and less talk.

(sorry for the out-of-focus, or is it auto focus?)

This particular model was actually quite a cheapie at the time, and still is. :D They started using laminates for the neck and body, mostly because they could get quite a decent consistency in their products. And they also had endorsees at the time, I remember fondly the rediculous "Peter Kraus" model (the German Cliff Richard), which only had 4 strings, since the bloke couldn't actually play very well... ah, all good fun! Anyway, let's see some more shots:

Right. Any ideas? :)

Cheers!

Framus! For some reason I always thought electric when I thought of Framus.

The exact model? Very tough question, but looks like maybe their vintage SL series with that tailpiece.

Whoa - I've missed all the fun here! (A day on the road. :( )

For the record, I would not have got it. Like Andy, I know Martin have been doing surprising stuff in the middle market with necks of multiple laminates of artificial wood, but then that's not a Martin transition from neck back to peghead, so that guess would have been wrong.

I'd have never guessed Framus and I sure ain't going to get what model it is! Good quiz! :D

Now then: is this a guitar you have got your mits on, Nutter? Are you raiding the factory museum at this very moment?

Watching with interest...

Cheers - C

Cool guitar Nutter I couldn't guess and I bought a Framus twelve string in Oxford at a large guitar/music store in 74 for 50 quid but was so worried I would damage it on the flight home that I paid another 30 for a super hard case. I know, no pic's no guitar, but, I sold it in 91. :(

Well, folks, as far as I can see it is a model called "Sorella" (little bonus quizz for people interested in the lingua italiana). Here's the label:

Image

Isn't that lovely? MADE IN THE HEART OF BAVARIA, ja in Bavaria, where the trees are made of wood!

Anyway, the Sorella was made in various editions. Let's have a look at Framus' own vintage museum homepage.
http://www.framus-vintage.de/?cl=EN

There we have a very nice web site that shows us all we need to now and more. Here's the Sorella in various incarnations.

ImageImageImageImage

The one to the far right is probably closest to the one I have floating around here. Model Sorella 5/59, Thinline section. And according to Framus' dating scheme, it was made in January '69. Awesome! Got that out of the way.

But what have we here? Peter Kraus signature guitar! Ha! Guys, this bloke is a legend with grandmas all over Germany and Austria, and just like Cliff in the UK, Peter wore Elvis's shoes over here. So while the US had raunchy Pelvis Presley belting out "Hound Dog", we had Peter and "Sugar Sugar Baby". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxSoePXJ ... re=related
But it got worse. He's still around, and so we see him in a performance like this, really working the Chuck Berry tune here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7S6QxaoMz8

Anyway, Framus wanted in on the success and made him a guitar to hold onto in his many films in the sixties. And since it actually never needed playing live, they said "heck, four strings is enough". Here it is:

Image

ImageImageImage

Great, huh? ;-)

Anyway, I'm sure it boosted Framus' revenue. Framus is now a part of the Warwick group, and still happily plodding along.

Right, chaps, that's just about it. Let me leave you with this beautiful scan of a catalogue they had way back when.

Cheers!

Nutter

I might be ;)

I have a pre-carved bridge Warwick sent, but it's too low and needs some special modifications... Coudl be a nice little project I could do once I'm back - I shall certainly keep you posted :)

Sweet!

Though I suspect you'll keep it stock, the Big Hairy Monkey Research Team reckon it needs a dirty great dog ear P90 installed in the neck.

Bet that would sound "Jazzy-er than a Jazz man's Jazzy bits"!
