If it was broken it was worth a lot more that $350 Canadian, American, or pounds. :(

Sold :!: Ouch :!: I must say though on something like that, you gotta jump as it looked like it was in fairly good condition and with Fender Amps of that vintage, you can always repair them reletively easily...if you can find a good tech, but either way, that would have been a steal!

FWIW

Here's a somewhat related situation: Across the street from where I work used to be the original Ampeg factory. Next door to where I work is another business where the owner is a good friend of mine. His late father originally owned the business and back in the day, was friendly with all the "big guns" at that then Ampeg factory. Last week, this friend comes over to me stating he was cleaning out his father's house. He was carrying a mid-60s Ampeg Reverb Rocket he had just taken out of the original sealed box. He said it was given to his father by one of the aforesaid Ampeg "big guns" for reasons unknown as no one in his family played. Further, at the time his father came home with it, no one in the family was even interested enough to ask the father why he even accepted it.

Fast forward: Out of sheer curiosity, my friend wanted to know how much it was worth. I told him that in collectors circles, it would be worth the equivalent of the required cash down payment on a mortgage today. As previously stated, he's not a player and needless to say, he was stunned. He then asked me if I could unload it for him since I'm familiar with such things. I said I would but that we should ensure it works properly first. He plugged it in, waited a minute or so and then threw the 'on' switch. After about 30 seconds, still no light from the tubes; no sound; the transformer started stinking; the amp started overheating and ultimately began smoking. I immediately pulled the plug.

With utter disappointment, he asked me how much it would cost to fix it. I told him that if he was lucky, it would probably be about $200 but then the whole NOS-OEM thing is totally out the window. He decided against it. I then suggested that he part it out. That he did on his own. He picked up some good bucks for the logo, speaker, etc. so all wasn't a total loss. It was a shame though, this amp was in absolute mint condition and would have fetched him a pretty penny if it worked like it looked. Well, I guess if you can't find several thousand dollars, several hundred is always cool too.

Hi Nevin I guess the guy is kicking his own butt now that he knows what a big boo boo he made.It serves him right for not selling it to you.

I did consider it but (like I had said) since it wouldn't have a lot of the original guts and by the time I'm done explaining it to any prospective buyer, it wouldn't be a quick or possibly not even lucrative flip. Besides, I gave up repairing amps decades ago as I simply didn't have the time for them then as now. Also, I'm already am in the process of revamping an amp. Are you familiar with those Epiphone Galaxie 25 amps which were briefly on the market several years ago, the ones modeled after the mid-60s, 25W Gibson tube amps? See this link for a bit for info:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/prod ... sku=480256

This Epi amp was a classic example of a, "Now you see them, now you don't" offering as they were quickly discontinued due to all having weak reverb and excessive hum problems where each issue interacted on the other. Well, I was outright given one in brand new condition and am in the process of solving this amp's design problem once and for all while trying to make it sound like a cross between an old Vox and old Marshall combo amp in the process. Yes, this is infinitely easier said than done. It is essentially a tinkering thing as I really cannot dedicate any time to it by a long shot so there's no way that I have the time for the Ampeg too. Besides, beyond repairing the fried stuff in the Ampeg, the cause that fried this hitherto unused amp must be found too.

The outright Gibson truly would have but not this reissue (for lack of a better word). The hum problem is akin to holding your thumb on the tip of a plugged in guitar cable. As you turn the volume OR the reverb up, it gets incrementally worse. Read the reviews. Believe me when I tell you, you wouldn't have goofed by passing on this particular model.

The only reasons I even decided to bother with it at all was because it was new and handed to me. So, I chose to make it a personal conquest type of thing. Still, I have no motivation nor time to really get into it. Maybe one of these years. :?: :?: :?:
