There's a Marshall MG412A cab for sale locally for $200 and I was wondering if anyone had experience with them and if it would fit on top of my 1960B cabinet.I believe that it's a bit smaller and was wondering if the full size 2204 head would fit on it properly or overhang a bit.Advice and info would be much appreciated. She's rated for 120W and has Celestion made speakers.

There is a bit of overhang if you put a regular sized head on one.

Also be aware, them cheaper cabs do lack the sonic qualities of their counterparts. It's quite striking when you A/B them.

The Rocket 50's, or Vietnamese made Vintage 30's in there aint too good. Though at 120W it may have Vietnamese greeback equivalents. I don't know what their like.
Also the cheaper, lesser quality cab will be sitting higher and more 'in your ear' than the good cab.

Personally I think you'd much prefer a 1936 2x12 cab to sit on top of a 1960B. Have a 3/4 stack. You lose some of the 'take your head off treble' of a full stack. But it's not like it will be missed by most. Same sort of money, used. Much better quality and you get the option to just use your head with a 2x12 (something I do a good bit), 4x12 or 6x12. Get 2 4x12's and you only get two options. 4x12 or 8x12.

I was reading the specs on the Marshall website and it said that the MC412 was British made and had Celestions.I don't know if the MG412 was a misprint or it's another cab. Either way I've always wanted a full stack and this may be a good starter for the time being and maybe down the road I'll find a proper 1960 A cab.I figure for only $200 it's worth the gamble considering that these cabs are $450 new around here and this one is like new.I could probably sell it for what I paid for it or even a small profit. Thanks for your input Nik.

If my memory serves me right the MG412 cabs are only $279 new. I'll check to make sure.

The MG series is different, they are cheaply made and sound like crap IMHO. I picked one up last year for a steal of a price(head & cab for $125) and promply sold it. Allthow I did double my money on it.

The 1987 A&B and the 1960 A&B are the better cabs.I'm going to try out the cabinet tomorrow anyway,it may be OK for around the house. The cabinets do retail here in Newfoundland for $450 taxes in and occasionally you can get them on sale for $300 but that's not very often.I'll probably bring along my 2204 head to try it out and if it sounds like a crap box with the 2204 I'll definitely pass on it.BTW if I do decide to get it,in order to run that and my other 8 ohm 4-12 would I have to put the amp's selector on 16 ohms? Something in my memory says yes.

Real Marshall cabs.
The 1960 A&B are pretty much the thing to beat. Industry standard guitar cab at a price thats incredbly hard to beat. You can equall the quality, but you'll never beat it. Especialy at the £400 price tag.
The 1936 2x12 less so, but it's still a decent cab with a great price and near bombproof.

There was a story in Marshall Law from a guy in Mississippi who's 1960 had been washed away in the floods a few years back. He found it, let the water out, plugged in, it was fine.

Buy a good 1960A cab or a 1960AX or 1960AH. Don't skimp on a MG series cab. You'll thank me later...........Mike (waiting for big thank you)

I went and bit the bullet and picked up the cabinet,I tried it out and the speakers, although they don't have the presence and punch of the G-12-L-25s that are in my 1960 cab they sound decent. The money situation is kinda tight right at the moment so I don't have the scratch for a 1960 A cabinet if I did I'd certainly opt for that.BTW my amp has only a 4 ohm and 8 ohm setting on it which should I switch it to with the 2-8 ohm cabinets?I thought it might be 16 ohms but since the amp only has 8 or 4 settings it has to be one of them.I got the cab for $180 after so that's not too bad for a near new cabinet.
