There was a guy on a forum I used to frequent who had a tag line that said "The only woodstock I saw in '69 was on my M-14."

You can, just download it. Mountain wasn't that good. I've heard Mountain way, way better. I think there were way too many drugs involved. Same with the Who. Johnny Winter was great. He played a Fender Electric XII with six strings taken off. The one with the hockey stick headstock.Sounded great too.

Thanks so much for all the great reply's to this thread. It was obviously culturally a very difficult time back then. Would have been hard to convince parents to go to "hiipy rock concerts when you were young back then too no doubt. It was so interesting for me to read and be taken back in time with all the reply's from people who lived that time. Thanks again!!!

I knew Richie very well back in the day. All those months at the Cafe WHA?. Quite a gifted young man he was IMHO. Last time I saw him was '74'-75, time approximate, at a party Manny Roth gave at the club. In the summer of '69 I was at the University of Vermont studying Quantitative Analysis and no opportunity to get away for that event, but I knew people who did.

I don't argue his talent, just the length of his set. I also met him at a J Geils jam session not too long ago. (John = J Geils, not the band!) His name is John Geils Jr and is still active. Check out a CD called "New Guitar Summit" and hear what he's up to.

BTW, Gerry is my neighbor :

Levon has a studio in Woodstock. The Black Crowes recorded Cabin Fever there in '09.

BTW---- It took some skilled carpenters a long time to build that place because they did it with no nails. Only wooden pegs.

Bear in mind that 'the happening' took place in the town of Bethel, NY. The town of Woodstock would not issue them a permit, but the project retained the name.

It wasn't in town it was at Max Yasgur's farm.

Correct, not literally 'in the town', but the farm's designation of municipality is the Town of Bethel.
