I don't think our WI teachers deserve less, and as a member of a union I don't think their collective bargaining rights should be stripped.

But they definitely need to contribute to pensions and health insurance.

My daughter worked in one school for a total of 3 days. Each day something from her purse went missing while she was writing on the board, including an expensive pen her husband bought her. Then her safety was threatened by the same group, after that she quit. The kids may be our future as Nikininja said, but these kids have zero respect for teachers and people in general. They take their education too lighly and most can`t even read. Their more concerned about making a name for themselves on the street.

then a good chunk of those type will make a living off our personal property, while we work our butz off to replace what we have lost, and to move on and maybe get one step ahead in life, all the while they will be blaming "the man" for their failures.
then our daughters end up with these guys because they think this type is cool
and the new in thing. then the rest of the decent folk see them with this type and want nothing to do with them after that, so shes pretty much marked herself for life unless she moves far away. this usually doesnt happen and she sticks with this type and ends up being known has a ho.

SBLS and cvilleira; I hear you both...Florida ranks 47th out of 50 in teacher salaries and getting lower by the year. I haven't had a raise in 3 years. But the fact remains that my job doesn't end after that last bell. I spend my own money on supplies, books for my classroom, and an inordinate amount of time trying to make world history interesting to them; lots of visuals, PowerPoint presentations, music, movies, etc. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Some students are there and some are already lost. I've taught ESE students, ESOL students, high-level readers, low-level readers, and SOS Children's Village kids. BUT, I wouldn't give it up because I make a difference.
