When the Squier 51's were released (exactly the same guitar, now a little bit rare) they quickly turned into a modder's dream.

What I see is my ultimate Strat/Tele hybrid. Get the 72's hollowbody, proper strat scratchplate (make it myself, may even do a wooden one), tele bridge, maybe a lefthanded maple tele neck (ala Billy Gibbons).
Spray the body black or butterscotch, throw the bits together, have my ultimate dream guitar.

For pickups I'll be looking at the Boss bridge from BK and keep the humbucker in the neck to be a bit Keef at the same time.

what's with Fender killing the tremolo bridges on their guitars lately? that's one of the cool features I like about the mustang.

I believe it was the first time the Squire line ever really "invented" a new guitar. Initially they failed big time and were basically discounted in stores to get rid of them. Later on, they received a cult following because they were cheap.

The cool-looking tremolo on those old Mustangs were just that--cool looking. They were Hades on intonation and staying in tune, though.

I had an original 1964 Mustang (I guess it was originally white, but it was yellow by the time I got it in 1991; it had a red tortoise pickguard) that looked cool, but the dang thing would not stay in tune if you touched the tremolo bar. The neck was a way to small for me, too. Sold it for a $75 profit!

They look pretty cool (especially the '51), but they better have great tone & feel for $800! Yikes!
