Well Seward, you obviously live in the cheap part of the uk at £1,30 a litre. PAssed my station this morning and it was £1.45!!!!!!! I have no idea how to convert that!!! You would think living in th 'oil capital of Europe' (aye right!) we would get some of that US discount.......

$2.32 per litre.
So $8.76 per US gallon

I travel round a good bit and have found prices to be about the same from the southern most part of Northhamptonshire/ Cambridgeshire to the top end of Shropshire.
What you have to look for is towns with populations of around 30/40000. Then look for the cheaper option within that town.

Keep an eye on your tyre pressure too. I saved £15 over the last couple of weeks by checking my tyre pressure every three days. Doing around 2500 miles per week.

So a Tyre is like a tire but on the other side of the road.

Gas here is at about $1.38 a litre which translates to about $6.28 a gal. scarey ain't it for North America and especially maddening when we have the world's largest offshore oil deposits.

Pretty soon, no one will be able to afford to use either tires or tyres so it wont matter either way.

It cost me 109 dollars to fill my new pickup truck and it was not empty, and the new Miata MX5 in the family runs on high test which is 4.00 dollars plus per gal.

Gasoline is too cheap. And cars use too much of it. That's the facts if you look at climate change and peak oil. This game is going to end very soon.

It costs me around 150 USD to fill my Skoda Octavia (I live in Europe).

Cheers

David

How much of that is taxes? In the U.S. it's between .40 and .64 for for taxes per gallon and the gas station makes between .5 to .15 per gallon which is why some charge more if the customer uses a credit card because the card company charges the station for that use. Then the station gets a kick back from the card company.

Plus U.S. Gas contains 10% ethanol at this time and all states have there own formulas that they require. One of the things Gas companies said would save money is if every State used the same formulas instead of there being so many different ones to be made. No one can agree on an oxygenated gas an what time of the year it should be used, which I think is never because it cuts back on fuel milage causing you to burn more in the name of less pollution per gallon. Makes no sense!

The feds just fail on a vote to increase the 10% Ethanol up to 15% per gallon and the tree huggers were pushing for it to be 20% . No one knows what this will do to older cars that were not built to run on E85 Ethanol. 15 % an 20% ethanol's are much more corrosive plus you get less gas millage with there use.
You loose 20% fuel millage with E85 which would not be bad if it cost less but for some reason in Maryland it cost more then Gas. My New truck is capable of running on both being a Flex fuel vehicle it still keeps its 400 horsepower but get less millage on E85 but why use it when its hard to find and cost more.

Oh well I now how to settle it here in the U.S and it's called Drill Drill we have two of the biggest oil reserves in the world but don't want to tap them, makes know sense. If Bush was President the media would be all over this crap but he is not. So silence is the name of day about the economy and Gas prices.

Well if they know reserves will run out soon, then our illustrious liars should concentrate on finding a system of travel that works and is sustainable. Rather than just persecuting the proles and plebes for wanting to get about a bit.

Personally I think climate change is a concocted story used as a rod for our backs and nothing more.
If the worlds going to end, lets get on with it. Cos I'm utterly sick of this nonsense.

I agree Niki any climate change going on is just natural cycle. Not the first heat/Ice age.

They push the E85 fuel and it is sustainable but they allow ridiculous cost of it. It's made of corn or sugar cain or a few other things. Some states it's 2.60 and here it's 3.50 :x Why I ask?

On 7/23/2008 gas peaked at 4.12 per Gal.then in five months 12/21/2008 it had dropped to 1.61 then five months later it rose to 2.61 and it stayed between there and 2.82 for the next 18 months, now in the last three months the average has risen almost a Dollar to 3.80 WHY I ask? The swings make no sense and never happened in the past like these days. There is no shortage and use is down!

Oh yes I just read that the cost of gas in Norway is almost 68% taxes  Thats nuts!

CV, tried to resist but with both 13s in my cheek the answer is, to lower the price of gas you must first rid the globe of communists/politicians, that will lower taxes/regulations because we won't have to pay for their fat fannies anymore and things will be peachy once again.

I think about $3.39 a gallon last time I filled up. We have this major gas processing/refuling station in the hub city, so gas tends to be a little cheaper than the national average.

Bout 75% tax, then there is Value Added Tax (VAT @20%) then Fuel Tax at 15% so in effect it's 105% tax in the uk. On a £1.38 litre of fuel in the UK about 37p goes to the fuel company and 17p to the station, or thereabouts. It was on a BBC report the other night. I can't remember the exact amounts but have a feeling I'm not too far off.

We did, a few years ago. Have a spate of farmers using vegetable oil in their diesel engines. They were prosecuted and fined for tax evasion. I remember one got a £6K fine. Another got time.
Who's the thief? Sustainable fuel that is farmed in the UK. One of our biggest crops is oil seed rape, used directly for vegetable oil. The stuff creates oxygen as it grows, grows nearly anywhere, requires little in the way of maintainence to grow. Would create domestic jobs. Yet were ignoring it's usage as fuel.
Why? The fossil fuel crisis can't be that bad if they can dismiss a idea so easily.
We all know the answer don't we. They'd never get away with taxing a food source at such a rate.
We're only 3 meals from anarchy.

Nevin $1.19 CDN per litre?
