I have two kids who are just getting started, my daughter is using an acoustic because she is 12 and can handle it without a problem but it was too large for my son who is 10. I found a MIM Strat for a reasonable price which has great for him because the action is lower and he does not have difficulties with the size of the guitar. Also, when they plug it into their amp their eyes light up.

Lot's of good advice. An acoustic with nylons wold be a lot easier on little fingers, while a 3/4 size Squier might keep their interest better because they have a "real" guitar".

Personally, I'd go with the electric. I can still remember the thrill when I got my first one.

A guitar is in the future fo my grand daughter. Being she's not even three yet, it can wait a while. She loves to play my basses.

Good luck with your decision.

As far as guitars go there are 3/4 sizes in both electric and acoustic. My advise is to go into a guitar store with her, ask questions. If the store ahead an instructor on site, that would be the person I would ask.

I was 12 when I got my first guitar. It was a nylon string acoustic. I learned everything on my own, however I do recommend an instructor. Group vs individual learning depends on her own learning preference.

Fender Squire Mini Strat= $100. VOX VT20+ amp= $169.95 Guitar Strap= $50.00 = $319.95 A Good price for good quality gear.
My Granddaughter is only 5 and she loves singing through her little sound system and strumming her little 3/4 Yamaha Acoustic. I started her out when she was 4, so she's been at it for about a year, and has asked for an electric when she gets big. We just got her a Minny Strat and a VOX VT20+ amp for Christmas. I think the added benefit of the new sound will enhance her entrust and allow her to mouve forward more quickly. The cost is much less than you think. The guitar was $100. and the amp was $169.95 I also got her a comfortable strap to support the weight. I think she's going to love it. My wife has been playing it and gets some incredible sound out of the two. Now the 3 year old gets the Yamaha Acoustic and the ukulele gose back in the box until the newborn is big enough to hold it. I know the kids are haveing fun with there music, but let me tell you that I'm the one that is getting the most enjoyment out of the deal, I just love it. 8) :)

Yes, we get it, you can hold a guitar. What an accomplishment. Really, I'm in awe and wish I had that ability.
