I have a short scale bass.One of the tuners broke and my dad finaly found a new one that fit.But the place where the string goes in is to small to fit my flat wound strings. So I tried useing some round wounds but there is horible fret buzz. So how can I get this to stop? HELP PLEASE!!!!

A little more neck relief, then raise the action a tad.

Not so crap. Roundwounds sound much nicer than flat wounds.


Or you could widen the tuner hole, if your a bit adventurous. Which I think you are.

You could very,very carefully use a drill of just a slightly larger diameter than the string to enlarge the hole inthe tuner post.You could also unwrap the end wraps of the string so that the core wire would fit through the post hole but make sure you tape or solder the string end so it doesn't unwind further.

They are split shaft tuners.I did try to widen them because it was only the E that wouldn't fit. Thats how it broke in the first place.

It's how much bow there is to the neck.

Try lowering the string gauge to one that fits the hole. Flatwounds arc differently the roundwounds when you strike a note.

just leave the string off and hum those notes on the string when you go to play them.

GOOD NEWS!!!!!! I threw all the strings back on and let her sit for a while and the buzz is already getting better! I'm so happy!!!!

I've never owned a short scale bass so I have no experience with this but can you not buy short scale strings with the tapered ends? Somebody must make some.

O.K.You have a point.But we had some strings already sitting around and flats are so exspensive And my dad does not like running to the store like I do.And when we went to guitar center the other day He got himself a new amp,got me an amp stand,a 3way tele switch,and 2 clear speed knobs.Thats already alot of money.And I need other MORE expensive things like a new amp for my powered sub,And new speakers to go in my vintage HOT SPOT.I also need a nice sounding single coil pickup.So strings kinda are on the back of the list now.

Man, music isn't cheep!

PIE IS GOOD AND YOU HAVE A POINT...But I have some round wounds on and once she got set.I tuned her all up and man is it good to hear something different! I still have a bit of fret buzz though. Good thing I own 2 more basses
