Just as a reminder...

"As I begin my third year of remission from stage III colon cancer, I'd like to share a reminder to those whom this may concern.

"Since I was diagnosed with cancer, approximately 420,000 other people have heard the same words I did; "You have colorectal cancer." About 150,000 of those people lost their battle against this disease. Many of them could have survived if it was caught earlier, or if they had the treatment they needed. That's 150,000 mothers/fathers, brothers/sisters, grandmothers/grandfathers, sons/daughters that will not be able to celebrate another birthday with their loved ones. That's 150,000 too many, and doesn't count any other kind of cancer. In 2010, about 1.5 million people were diagnosed with cancer, and over 500,000 have died."

The bottom line is to get checked if you're at the age !!!

Those numbers are staggering ! I tried to search for my old thread "Music, Cancer & Chemotherapy" but couldn't find it.

It's kind of puzzling: some of us know someone who has died from the disease, yet there seems to be either resistance or denial in place here.

I did, couple of months ago, wasn't bad at all. Will go again in 5 years.

Lost my father about 10 years ago, he was in his 80's.

Oh man...this is like an omen,I was just talking to a friend here at work about this very thing,I will be 58 in a couple of months and have never had the colon-thing test and haven't had a physical in about 3 or 4 years...I said 5 minutes ago I was going to schedule an appointment for next week,I hope there's no bad news.

I went for my first at age 50 and no problems at all. When I had my annual physical in '08, at age 56, my doc suggested it and I said, might as well, then I won't have to worry about it for awhile....wrong!...it had already spread to my lymph nodes and after the surgery they removed the crud (tumor) and took out 28 lymph nodes too, which only showed cancer in three of them.

The next step was a mediport implant followed by 6 months of hard hitting chemo. Early detection is what saved my life...it really is important!!!

What a coincidence,I am just about on my way out the door for my first rectal exam-not looking forward to someone looking my old address though.

I just got back from my exam,not as bad as I was expecting,I've taken dumps that were a lot more uncomfortable lol.

yep mike. i'm 42 and suffer from stomach problems. doc says i'm fine. i asked for a prostate check and she said not till i'm 50. before 50 insurance won't pay. luckily i can by-pass this doc and go directly to a specialist. now i just time off work to do this.
