Back in 1976 Roy Buchanan came to town and a friend of mine who was with the university student's union who were sponsoring the concert asked me if I'd lend my brand new Peavey Deuce to Roy for the concert as he had only brought his Tele and always rented/borrowed his back line. To my buddy's amazement I refused and in retrospect I'm glad I did because he blew the piss out of 2 Fender Twins that night.He had bailed back about 2 doz. Black Horse Beer that day and had quite a buzz going by the time the concert rolled around yet he provided a flawless performance.I never ever lend gear,I was left once with a hefty repair build after some"friends"had refused to pay to fix an amp they fried when I loaned it to them,I swore then never again,not even for Roy Buchanan.

well shredds. theres one thing you can do then, boycott the bar. openly spread the word about what happened to other bands. let it be known that your doing so but not directly to the guy that screwd you.
if he cant get bands, he loses business. its all fair when money is on the line.
screw him. ok so the money isnt going directly in your pocket but it WILL be coming out of his. he can either pay on the front end, or the backend. he chose it himself brother. let the game begin. i figure betwwen 3 bands you guys can get the word out rather quickly cant you?

There used to be a bar in Fort Worth that had the habit of hiring bands, "Hey I'll give you $300 guaranteed a night plus xx% of the door (it was a hoppin' business, near a college and several restaurants). Let's book you for two nights in a row..."

Then when it came time to pay up, there would be a "misunderstanding"..."No, man I said $300 for both of the nights--only $150 a night, plus I said only x% of the door, not xx%..."

Notice I said there used to be a bar in Fort Worth that did this? All the bands started a boycott against playing there and let everybody else know what was going on, and pretty soon he couldn't get any bands to play there. His beer wasn't good enough to keep the customers coming without the bands, and his club exists no more.

If the venue has been cool with you in the past, I would talk to the manager and tell him how the promoter is a crook; he might make sure the guy doesn't do that in his bar/to his bands, and he might talk to his other bar-owner/managers friends. The promoter would lose out on the opportunity to screw other people.

Hey, thanks for putting up with the big rant guys. I don't do it often. But I do think this kind of topic is relevant, and unfortunately, something that will become more common within the next few years.
